After a bad board swap my game is slowly coming along. I got a new board in today and the game now plays blind so thats a start. There is a very small white dot in the center of the screen and thats all I can see. What do you think??

Your spotkiller light on the deflection board is most likely on. This either means you aren't getting a signal from the game pcb, or there is a problem with your monitor...

I ordered a v2000 rebuild kit from Bob Roberts yesterday. I am hoping and praying that this will solve my issue. Are the four transistors going bad on the side of the monitor chassis a common issue due to thier age on these??

Update: Install my full cap kit and replaced all 4 transistors, still getting the same old symptoms. Time to send it out I guess?

This may sound obvious... but I always get bit by the obvious... Have you checked the edge connector on your harness and the connector to the monitor to be sure all of the connections are proper to the monitor?

Is this game like Tempest, where the video issues could be with the actual game board itself ie pots going bad etc? (I'm asking out to the general readers, not to soh)

It sure could... there are two basic parts to these games, the digital circuitry (responsible for game logic and vector data) and the analog portion where the digital data is converted to analog to drive the xy(z) monitor. I'm assuming that soh has a known good replacement PCB in this case which should (if the board is good) rule out a problem with the board. This leaves the issue to either a connection or monitor problem.

Thanks RA.

Correct the board is good. I have been told that there is an issue with the deflection board.

Spot Killer Indicator
A spot killer circuit is used to blank the CRT under a
no signal condition. When the spot killer is active,
the CRT will be extinguished and LED D504 will light
indicating spot killer operation. This is what my deflection board is doing, the LED is on.

LED on means the spot killer is active, it's active because there is no signal.

Measure the voltage on the X and Y out it should read somewhere in the area of .2 - 2v anything more in either x or y, and the board is not working.

See the problem is I have no idea how to do any of that. Repairing these things is not my forte' I usually send stuff like this out for repair. Can you maybe enlighten me on how to perform this procedure?

There's an xout and yout test lug on the asteroids board. Put the positive side of your meter on one lug, and the negative lead on the ground test lug. Put your meter in dc mode if yours isn't auto put it on least 20 volts. Then check the other output
