O.K. so me and my son are having a discussion (argument) that asteroids deluxe when looking thru the bezel at the game play is black and white or blue. He say's the one he played at HAAG 2 week's ago had a blue tint to it,I told him it was probably the black light causeing the tint. SO,is there a blue bezel? or am i right, with the black light thing?

DAMN, suck's being schooled by my 15 year old on a 31 year old game and im 40!how could i do this gel thing?

Did you make this yourself? I have an Asteroids so I'm not familiar with AD and the gel.

I like the multi color look, so I wonder if I can do this to mine?

Yes. They are attached to the screen using a border of double sided tape. My Red Barons have a hard plastic cover (much thicker than a gel) on the screen. BattleZones also had a gel on the screen that was green in the playfield area and red in the Radar area. Other black and whites that had a gel or cover (off the top of my head:

Gunfight - Yellow
Omega Race - Yellow
Star Castle - Red/Yellow/Blue
Solar Quest - Yellow/Blue
Armor Attack - Green
Space Invaders Deluxe - Rainbow

That is all I can come up with quickly but I think at least 30% of all B/W games came out of the factory with some kind of gel to simulate a color screen...

Mine is blue with a blue overlay but not a Gel like you guys are mentioning. My machine has a black cardboard bezel with a blue translite plastic film sheet in it. I have had two of these cabinets with this installed in them.I have a question I have been meaning to ask though. Are the ships and bullets supposed to be brighter than the asteroids,or is the brightness supposed to be the same on all of the graphics?

Funny you ask,my son said the exact same thing about the bullets. Im pretty sure its suppose to be that way.

Yes, the intensity of the bullets and enemy saucer are both higher than the rest of the games graphics.

FWIW, my AD has the blue film too, but it's not attached to the monitor - it's attached to the bottom side of the starfield cardboard bezel in the front half of the monitor area, in front of the mirror.

I've looked at 4 other AD cabs, and they've all been set up this way.

Here's a pic of the front monitor cardboard bezel with the blue film missing. You can see the lines where the double sided tape was holding the blue gel in place. Mine was missing when I got my AD too:

Perhaps, but you may not like the way the image looks when projected through it.

Theater film is really your only option - it also acts as a UV filter too, cutting down on the tube glow.

The desired effect here is to tint the games graphics, but the glow of the tube is also reduced with the gel, causing the images to appear to be 'floating' in the space background. With the black light on, the effect is really cool - 3D ala 1980's style. :)
