Asteroids Deluxe Cocktail Fixing X Output from game

Hi, I have an Asteroids deluxe that's playing blind. I went over the monitor and it all looks pretty good. I went from blowing fuses and having neck glow to having the spotkiller on and no neck glow.

I checked the voltage from the X and Y lugs on the game PCB. After like 5 minutes, Y tests ok (+3 fluctuating) but X is -13.5 volts consistently. I think this is why my spotkiller is on.

If I'm having voltage problems, what should I check? I check the VR transistors and they seem to check ok against a regular asteroids board that I have. What else might be causing bad voltages in the X output?

Thanks in advance.

I should have mentioned that!

Sort of the same thing....

Y voltage is fine (2.6 or something) and X is -13.5.

I am pretty sure the X output on this board is hosed, but how to fix it?

Swapped them and still the same

Swapped those chips you mentioned and the problem didn't follow. I have a solid voltage at X and Y is fluctuating (after a minute or so) at a normal range.

The Pots seem ok

Both the X and Y pots seem to be functional..

When I crank down the X output, the voltage changes to -8 volts and stays there, stable.

Sorry for not mentioning this sooner!!!

with a logic probe compare the X and Y inputs to their respective DAC's (AD561) to ensure you are getting inputs to the video section (both X and Y)

I gotta get me one of those!

I'm gonna try and pick one up today. I should have one already, but never got around to it. Now that I have a need, it's about time.

I've seen other posts regarding X and Y signals from the game board and various fixes.

Even though I've mentioned that Y was stable, it's only stable after a few minutes. The voltage from Y when I first power up the game is high too. After a little bit, it goes to normal. Can anyone power up their game and do a quick DC voltage test for me?

Should the voltages be ""normal" right out of the gate? Or does it take a little bit to get there?

One more thing, I'm assuming the answer is yes, but would these voltage issues cause the game to play blind with the spot killer lit?

Thanks again for your help!

Update!

I have an update to the Asteroids saga.

Talked to my friend who talked to the guy he got it from. ANyway, turns out there's some info I was missing. He said that the game played blind on player 1 (no shit!) but played on player 2.

SO I hooked it up, and I got game on player 2.

This is an Asteroids Deluxe cocktail table. I have player 2 because it's upside down, or just because player one is hosed. I have no idea where to go with this, so does anyone have any suggestions with this new info?

Thanks!

cocktail requires inversion logic to display correctly for both players

TL081 and 4016 handle the inversion
