I know I could've posted this in the monitor section... but there's another detail that I'm not sure about... please read on.

Asteroids; contrast pot not working. To see anything on the screen you have to turn the brightness up to the point where you see the retrace lines (and bright dot in the middle of the screen). This has apparently been an issue for a while since that dot in the center of the screen is burned in VERY well.

When you put the machine in test mode, you get 1 beep as well... so, I'm assuming RAM issue (leaning towards bad socket as I swapped the RAM around and still only got 1 beep... was going to replace).

Now, I know that bad RAM can cause some weird issues... but is there anyway that it could be effecting anything that would cause the contrast pot to look like it's not working?

The monitor has had caps and pots replaced... still no joy.

I would start by checking the monitor plug to see if any pins are loose or backing out. Sounds like the z signal may have a bad connection. I'd also check the edge connector and cleaning it up with an eraser. I can't rememember off the top of my head if there's a brightness pot on the board but I don't think so.

Has the monitor been reflowed/capped/fuses checked?

No brightness pot on the board, monitor has been recapped/potted, I cleaned the connector, checked the fuses, and reflow'd all connectors on the monitor. ... Guess checking the wiring and going from there would be next.
