Atari Asteroids cabaret with a 15" Electrohome G05 monitor. I believe it's a -801 ?

The game play is great, picture is clear and bright, but the text & graphics have a slight wobble/ slow-mo hula to them when you're watching the the game in attract mode.

I've done the following so far:

-New Big Blue in the power supply
-Recapped the AR1 board
-Recapped the game PCB

Perhaps it's time for a monitor chassis recap, or is there a more specific set of components I should zero in on?

Thanks everyone.

Capping AR's and game boards is a waste of time and money. Those caps don't go bad.

Replace the filter caps on the deflection board and recap the HV. Also clean the hv diode contacts and springs.

Everything andrewb said plus resolder the headers on the monitor boards. And clean the POTs.

Lots of threads, even recent ones, regarding cocktail / cabaret 15" B/W monitor issues. Same issues with same solutions.

You need a forum bot to post that for you everytime someone says rebuild AR. lol.

I know, right.

I'd think that I'd be seeing it less, the more I post about it. But the meme isn't very viral, it seems.

Seeing people wasting money recapping AR's and game boards is my #1 peeve, as people do them reflexively, 'hoping' it will fix something. But I dislike more that people sell these kits without really making it clear that it's very not likely to fix any issues.

An AR kit should include a 2N3055, a pot, and two 10-ohm 1/4 watt resistors. That's all you should ever need to replace on 99% of them, if they're actually dead.

IMHO, an ARI/II kit should also have a replacement LM305. More than most AR I've fixed needed one of these more than the transistor. (YMMV)

The only caps I've put on an ARI/II are to replace dented (or missing) ones or to add more features/voltages to upgrade the variant.

Monitors ALWAYS get a capkit. No monitor issue threads should be allowed prior to adding a capkit. LOL (IMHO)
