I have owned my asteroids for ten years without a problem but today it stopped working. Everything looks fine when game is turned on, the attract screen looks normal with the picture fine and the push start message flashing as always. The start button is also flashing normally. The only sign of a problem at this point is a diagonal line going from the centre of screen to the bottom left that appears when you push the start button, and the game does not start, but just stays in the attract mode. I have my 5 volts on the board and nothing seems to be loose, all fuses check out. It seems like a board failure but this games self test button is missing so I can't run the ram or rom tests. Has anyone seen this failure before and maybe point me in the right direction. One other thing, this game is an upright but I have a board from a cocktail version installed.

Since you don't have the test switch on your coin door, you still have one option to put it in test mode. There is a black wire and white wire hanging inside the coin door next to the volume knob on the left side. You simple run a jumper between the two wires and it should go into test mode.

It worked, partly, it did the ram test and the R4 location failed. It did not do the rom test but I will replace R4 and go from there.
