I mistakenly posted this in the other technical section....sorry for the dulpicate questions & waste of bandwidth.

I picked up a untested 19V2000 for 1 of the asteroids projects I'm working on. I have a working asteroid deluxe with a working G05-802 monitor in it I plugged the untested 19V2000 into the deluxe cabinet & am getting an orange glow at the back of the crt neck.
1) the connector is comatable. Is the pinout on the molex connector the same for asteroids/asteroids deluxe?

2) is the molex pinout the same for both the G05-802 and the 19V2000?

I'm 99% sure the answer is yes to the first 2 questions, but want to confirm. Here's the real questions now....

3) are the deflector boards in the g05 & 19V interchangable?

4) Is there any danger of me fying the good board by putting it into the non working 19V2000 to test the tube & eliminate the possibility of the problem being a high voltage issue.

5) Is there any danger of me fying anything on my working g05 in the deluxe, by placing the untested board in the working g05?

Thanks,
Dave

WTF I typed up an answer and it never took!?!

Anyhow - for the most part, the G05-802 and the 19v2000 are completely compatible, both in the connector pinout and the deflection boards. Even though they are two different manufacturers they basically are the same design. That said, I know some newer revisions of the deflection board had a possible change but don't remember what it is. You can Google the B&W Vector faq for more details.

Doesn't matter if its Asteroids or Asteroids Deluxe, but be aware some Asteroids were pinned for a G05-801 which was an older model and had a different pinout (I think a different plug too). I think most AD's were pinned for the 802/19v2000.

As for gettng these monitors working - do this and chances are you'll fix it up.

Yank deflection board. Check all fuses (also check all fuses in power brick of the games)
Check R100 and R101. If either is open, simply replace with a heavy piece of wire.
Resolder every pin of every molex header
Check for any other cold solder points

Reassemble and enjoy!

thanks

Thanks for the response. both asteroids i have are wired for the 802. Figured switching the boards would be a quick tell if anything else wasn't functioning.

Just started working on this today, have working asteroids deluxe to test with.
Pulled the deflection board & replaced burnt fuses at F100, F101 & F700. No continuity at R101, cut ceramic resistor & replaced with solid copper wire, now have continuity at R101. R100 was already replaced with tinned copper wire, continuity present. P500, P600, P700 & P700 molex headers have previously had solder re-flowed, not the neatest job, but looks solid to me. Bottom of board shows evidence of re-soldering at DB100.
Reinstalled board & plugged into working cabinet. When I powered up the cabinet I saw a quick green flash at the top corner of th back of the CRT & the fuses at F100 & F101 blew.
The other fuses (including the replaced fuse at F700) did not blow. The 3 largest capacitors look to be original from the look of the soldered side of board.
Any ideas what this could be a symptom of?
Thanks
