O.K. Recapped deflection board - replaced pots (it had a "shaky" picture). Game worked beautifully. Turned it on the other day and monitor is dark. No neck glow. Turned it off - then on again - this time I have neck glow and game works great. But, after about 2 or 3 minutes the screen slowly starts to fade away until once again dark. no neck glow. Any ideas? I also replaced the HV diode to no avail... Thanks.

Check your 12 position amp connector to make sure that you have a good connection. Also check the 15 position Molex connector on your power brick to make sure that you have a good connection. Check to make sure that all of the fuse holders on the power brick are good too.

Depending on the revision of your deflection board, it may have two large ceramic resistors. If R101 is overheating, it can cause a shutdown similar to what you're describing.

The reason it overheats could be either due to a failing bridge, or shorted pre-driver transistor.

You didn't mention reflowing the solder on the header pins, and connector P100 supplies the voltage for the HV transformer, so cold solder there could cause resistance and low HV resulting in a dim picture.

Did you reflow every header pin on the deflection and HV boards when you did the cap kit? It's easy to miss one.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have reflowed the joints (but I may have missed a few). I'm curious: What does P701 do? I seem to have the game working again - but only after messing with this connector.

O.K. I did miss some solder joints. I reflowed P500 - game works. Thanks to all you guys for your help.
