Picked up a non working Asteroids game, is my first repair project. I have power from the cord to the female plug, yet cannot seem to trace any further, all fuses have continuity when checked with meter, is there a way to check the transformer. Big blue coil looking thing etc. Any help is appreciated, please email with any suggestions. Thanks in advance .

A few basic things to look at:

Asteroids should have a power on/off switch located on the back of the machine near the bottom. Make sure that's flipped on.

Also there should be a few safety interlock switches on the cabinet (one by the coin door and one by the back door). These basically look like white square boxes with a small knob sticking out of it. The knob needs to be either pressed in or you can pull it out and it should click and hold into place. The idea is if somone opens the coin door or back door with the game on, power will shut off for safety's sake.

Do you see any sign of life at all from the machine? Is the marquee light lit up? Can you coin the game up and hear any sound?

I almost forgot, the switch is broken, is there a way to bypass while troubleshooting? Where would I order such a thing? Thanks again

You can bypass those switches by using some jumper wires. The broken switch may be the whole reason the game got sold..you may have a cheap fix!!

Do you mean the door switch or the main power switch on the bottom of the cab?

Have you done any of the things suggested so far? Post some pics up of areas you are looking at or have questions about..that can help. We need to see what you are seeing. Have you pulled the fuses at the power supply to see if they are blown? does the power cord have any bad spots?

replace the BIG BLUE capacitor there in the bottom AND the 2 large caps up by the monitor. wall cord is in good condition and it has 3 prongs on it?. check for cold solder joints while the boards are out. replace ALL the electrolytic caps too.
start checking voltages at connectors with schematic and multi-meter if you dont know what they should be and where.
