Just picked an Asteriods cocktail and it i not working properly. When you out it in self test mode there is not picture on the screen but you can hear the beeps from the board running the test, them you put it back in game mode it goes into attract mode but has some graphics problems. When you coin it up the game will start but after a few seconds the game will end and go to attract mode. Where should I start?

Listened to the beeps and the first four are a higher tones then the 5th tone is a low tone and stops, looking at the manual it indicates that the Ram ic N4 is faulty. I took the part number from the ic and did a google search but google could not find that ic number, what should I do now? The number on the IC is m9y555-947 made by NEC, are they still available and if not is there another IC I can use to replace it with?

That's ones of the vector RAMs.
Asteroids RAMS are all 2114. Bob Roberts (and others) sell them for a few bucks each.
You might order two, as Asteroids stops beeping after the first bad RAM (IIRC). There may be another bad RAM.
The numbers you mentioned don't look familiar to me. Are you sure you're at location N4 on the PCB?

My mistake the number I wrote down was the ic manufacturer number, it is a 2114. I actaully fixed the game tonight, it turns out that the IC Ram at P4 was faulty and fortunatley I had a few 2114's kicking around on a parts board so I replaced the one on the asteroids board and the game works.:) I am pretty happy it was an easy fix since I only paid $100 for the game.
