Hello, Never posted on this forum.. only the arcade forums. I am hoping to find a little assistance with this 70s Rockola soda machine. Here is some background -

- unit worked in my possession about 2 years ago
- overall looks complete and in good condition
- Model is ROC-220-5
- Vends 12 oz cans
- 3-4 cans are installed in 3 of the slots (as I know some machines will not vend if not stocked)

Here are the issues I am having:
- Powers up, refrigerator works. Lights come on. Will not vend.
- installed working coin changer (tested in another unit) - no vend.
- rigged the credit button (pins 1 and 7 i believe- jumper with pin 3). not vending. I can hear relay click but no vend. (tried this same configuration in another machine and it worked)
- none of the soda selections are vending.
- checked connections for frayed wires, loose pins, etc. do not see anything obvious.

What else can I look at? Here are some pics. Note someone wired in an LED light jumping from the jones plug. I unhooked this and still no vend.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Start with the can slot sensors. They might be stuck from leaking pop.

If those are all good, check that the solenoid moves. More than click - does it actually travel?

I think the solenoid releases the catch so you can drop the can.

The solenoid is in picture IMG_5922 and 5923.

Then again, if none of them work, look back at the power. You might have a blown fuse, or a pinched wire.

Do you have a voltmeter?

I didn't realize Rockola made soda machines, that's awesome.

I feel like the late great Ken Layton would have known exactly where the issue would be. Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the replies. I checked all of the connections fairly closely. including molex pins. I dont see anything obvious. I wish I had a schematic for this to assist. Cant find one to view online.
I checked all sensors. None are stuck. they all seem to click.

If I should be checking AC power line to the bank of can rejectors, is there one line that controls the entire bank of all rejectors? If so, I can understand why none of the selections are vending.
I also checked all of the reject solenoids... all are freed up/ none stuck.

This has fuse breakers.. no fuses. none are popped out.

In addition, the little orange "make a selection" lights on the front buttons are flickering... which leads me to believe a poor connection of power and/ or ground... still investigating this but even with the 'wiggle test' not seeing much change.

Continuing now....

You need to check the sensors with an ohm meter. The switch may click and the contacts could be gone.

Hi, Just wanted to recap. I did get the machine working. Here is where I was at fault -

1. I didnt realize that the microswitch can sensors had to be depressed down. (normally I would but these sensors were like 15 cans up... meaning needing 15 cans loaded in order to vend... seemed high to me, but thats the design).

2. secondly, the free play switch I wired needed to be held down WHILE making the can selection. Its not simply 'press once for credit' type situation due to the way the free play jumpers work in relation to the relay.

These two situations solved the machine and is functioning now.

thanks for the help. Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
