Got my Assault today, pretty cool machine.. Have a few questions from assault owners.. first how tight are the sticks suppost to be, mine function ok but they seem a bit loose..

2nd question can someone send me a picture of how the start button is wired.. Mine is missing the top part of the button.. but has some wires connected on the bottom of the button, when I credit it the game starts automatic.. Is the start button a red blinking button or non lit?

I once owned an Assault that had NOS sticks installed. They are supposed to be pretty tight. However there is no decent replacement available and thus most people just have to do the best they can.

If you install different sticks make sure they are 4-way, the game is unplayable with 8-way sticks.

There are parts to rebuild the joysticks. Pretty sure they rebuild like gauntlet logo sticks. If your housing is worn out, you might need a donor. I think someone was going to make housings, but it might have been ram controls..

+1 on this link. Steven hooked me up with NOS parts. The sticks are TIGHT and snap back to center when you let go of them. I desperately needed to rebuild mine.

Mine has BurgerTime burn in it, so obviously it's not original. A friend of mine has my manual right now; he's doing some board work for me. Not sure if it gives details in there about what the correct monitor should be. Maybe you can find the manual online? I'm not the guy to tell you if the asteroids button will work. Hopefully someone else will chime in here...

One word of advice, take one stick apart at a time. Get the CORRECT drive punches for the job or you'll destroy delicate parts.

The Asteroids button should work. You can also just drill out and use normal happ start buttons if you want. I would actually think that would be preferable as some titles use those hard to come by Atari cone buttons as action buttons.

While this is not the route I would choose, IF you decide to do this you can get a new cpo from Quarter Arcade for $15 - see post #3 in this thread.

Congrats on the game! The start button should be a non-lit cone button, and yes, an Asteroids button will work. I couldn't agree more with the Mylstar recommendations, he will fix you up.

I put a asteroids start button in it.. Works fine but does not light up.. Does a desicated light up and flash when you coin it up????

No, I have two Assaults and the buttons do not light up. The sticks are not bad to rebuild, but not a cheap thing to do. Just take pictures and you will be fine.
