I just picked up an Assault machine (4 hour drive to CT - worth it!). I had a quick look at why the one stick wasn't responding, and I can see that the cushion ring (044390-01) has broken and slid down so that it's no longer useful.

I've Googled a bit and found that an appropriate pinball rubber is supposed to be a good replacement - has anyone found anything else that works well? I don't keep spare rubbers around, so I'm hoping for something I can pick up at Lowes, Home Depot or Ace.

Any clues? I'd like to be able to play it ASAP.

pinball flipper rubber rings are the only suitable replacement I've found.

Ditto. I used the rings from a Bally MataHari that I had. Most any of the standard Williams or Bally flippers will work.

For a short term hack while you wait for the flipper rubbers to arrive, you can do with the jhole operator did to my XyBots jysticks and just wrap the ring in about 40 layers of electrical tape. Just don't use axel grease to lubricate it like he did

Wow, I feel lucky that there's no axle grease on mine. I haven't examined the right joystick in detail, but it's got something red, so I assume it's got a flipper rubber on it already.

There is an operator logo on my cabinet, but since it's done with white spray paint in stencil on the side (down low), it actually blends right in, you have to read it to notice it doesn't belong.

Hey - it's my lucky night! I still haven't put the new rubber kit on Space Shuttle yet! Guess I've got the parts after all.

OK, I've got the CP off, and I've got the grips off and I've removed the joystick from the CP. Now - how do I get the trigger wires out of the thing so that I can get the new ring on? The trigger wires are soldered to the leaf switch at the trigger end, and they go straight to a 4 pin connector on the CP end of things.

I was kind of expecting a disconnect somewhere in the works - do I just unsolder the wires from the trigger leaf switch?
