So since no one else made a thread, I assume everyone here is over the Ass Creed series by now (I think the last AC thread we had was for Brotherhood). If so...you guys suck :) This is like the one series that I'll probably keep buying as long as they make them and make them right. Some of it may be repetitive, but most games are in one way or another, and none of them have been as repetitive as the first one.

Good story, good action and combat, good controls, good...pretty much everything else. Got the limited edition in for 360 today, so I'll be firing it up tonight. Also got a PS3 copy on its way from Ubisoft, which comes with the second edition AC Encyclopedia (a co-worker is buying the game from me since I don't need a spare game :p). Yes, I'm clearly a sucker for this shit.

I never did play the multiplayer much, which lost me my streak of 100%ing the achievements, but whatever.

ANYWAY - anyone else still playing these and/or looking forward to finally getting a true ACIII?

Too many games, not even close to enough time...but do want. I'll be waiting awhile for this one, as paying full price is just silly since I won't be able to play it without ditching a number of games I'm in the middle of.
I don't even think I finished 2...

I played the first one when it came out. The novelty wore off pretty quick.

1. Ride your horse to a city.
2. Help someone that's getting jacked by soldiers.
3. Hide in a group of monks to sneak into the city.
4. Find the 1 or 2 people that you need clues from.
5. Kill your target.

Rinse/repeat. It just got boring, so I never played any of the others. Did they mix up the missions at all in the sequels?

Im dont play the game but my son is a fan of the franchise,in fact im home on lunch and he's playing it right now.He has beatin' all of them, multiple times so there is a market for these games still.

I've wasted so much time on these games over the years. It's just so easy to get sucked into the story until you notice it's 2am.

Yes, the last three of them have mixed it up well enough to keep me interested, but kept the core gameplay the same so as to not change it up too much to push existing fans away. I was worried about them trying to do too much new shit and ruining the gameplay mechanics that I did enjoy from the first one. Fortunately, they didn't.

There's some stuff that's still repetitive, and there's more focus on Desmond in some of them, but as long as you like gameplay, the story, and the characters, I don't think you could help but enjoy II, Brotherhood, and Revelations. If I had to pick the best one up til now, Brotherhood brought the most new stuff to the table and made for a very enjoyable game overall. Being able to recruit and call on assassins to assist you in pretty damn cool.

Very much agreed.

I just got home from work and he's still playing it! that is "was" still playing until my ol' lady went in there just now to watch some program.

My ol' lady watches me play AC3. In fact, I don't get to play the main story tonight since she's working late and doesn't want to miss out on the story :( Guess I'll just go back and maybe reply a couple of the sessions I messed up on first playthrough yesterday or to collect some of the tedious bullshit collection crap these games have.

I'll admit, I am somewhat excited about this game, and will most likely pick it up soon.

I enjoyed the first one, until I noticed exactly what indecks described... a tendency to rinse & repeat objectives with slightly different scenery. I ended up giving my copy away when I became stuck in an area and found I had no desire to push forward and complete the game.

I also skipped the sequel entirely.

However when I saw a trailer for this game, it grabbed me in a way that the first and second games just didn't. Maybe because I am fascinated by American Revolutionary history, but this game just seems "right" for my tastes. I actually am looking forward to playing it, something I unfortunately can't say about many other games these days.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that the 5th installment is titled Assassin's Creed III?

*shrug*

Yeah, the first one was very very repetitive. It's possible to beat pretty quickly if you stick to ONLY doing the required missions and main assassinations. If you skip all the optional stuff, it can be completed in a night, especially if you've beaten it before and know where everything is beforehand. As an aside, there were generally multiple ways to accomplish the same task. So as was mentioned above: "Hide in a group of monks to sneak into the city" - yeah, you could do that for just about every city in that game, but if you didn't want to, you could just barge in, slaughtering everyone in your path. Or, there was usually away to climb over the wall or above the guards. I think they did this to give the player a chance to proceed they way they wanted to. Such "options" are much more prevalent in the later games, admittedly.

Despite the repetitiveness, I still enjoyed the first one a lot. It showed a lot of promise for a new franchise, and what originally drew me in was that it was done by the same people as Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

ACII, AC Brotherhood, and AC Revelations all focus on a new assassin in a new time period. ACII brought some cool new stuff, and wasn't quite as repetitive as the first one, but it wasn't until Brotherhood that I think the series finally found what it had been looking for. I haven't played the PSP games (I think there's a new one on the Vita), but I hope to at some point. I played one for the DS and it was pretty lame.

I won't spoil anything in III, but there are a lot of people complaining about it. Personally, I like it so far and just hit a pretty good plot twist that should hopefully make things interesting here in a bit. The Revolutionary War period for this one sort of worried me since comparing the forests and the Colonies to places like Rome and Jerusalem in the previous games just didn't seem to "fit." However, when I started watching the announcement videos earlier this year, I was sold on it.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that the 5th installment is titled Assassin's Creed III?
Because Brotherhood and Revelations are sequels to II. It makes sense.
Yeah, they realistically should have been titled Assassin's Creed II: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed II: Revelations. I don't know why they didn't. Regardless, as long as they don't fuck them up too bad, I'll keep buying as many as they'll put out, which I'm sure is what they're counting on...

Edit: I just noticed that the PS3 is getting a "Ezio Trilogy" in a couple of weeks (II, Brotherhood, and Revelations). Not bad for anyone who wants to check them out and doesn't have them yet.

I'm a bit surprised this is what they went with, but it's definitely true.

I've been a big fan of the series. The first one was repetitive but the story was good enough to keep me playing. The Enzio series was great, the repetitiveness was pretty much solved.
Now the combat system has pretty much been the weak part in all the games, especially the first. It was tightened up in the last three. I've only been able to put about 2hrs into AC3 and this combat system so far feels horrible, it's making the game almost unplayable. I'm not sure if its user error, but it feels like just plain crap. So far in every battle sequence the combat system has made me want to kick myself in the face. Is anyone else noticing issues with it?

I don't know, I haven't noticed any more than I notice it at the start of each game when I haven't played any of them for about a year. Also, each game seems to have tweaked the timings of the counter attacks just a bit so that you have to relearn it each time. In reality, this one seems to be almost the same as Revelations as I picked up the combat almost immediately when I started.

That said, I'm not a big fan of the HUD changes and how the symbols used for some things are different. I realize it was this way when they went from AC to AC2 and it makes sense to change things up a bit for 3 after this supposed "Animus Upgrade" that happens at the start of each game :p But still. So I find myself sometimes effing up the combat because the cues are different from before. As an example, I've noticed that the enemies don't always have a red icon cue above their head when attacking, which is odd when one dude does but the other three don't. But the combat system itself seems about the same to me this time around.

Sooo...while AC3 isn't terrible, I'd say it's probably a toss up for this one or AC1 for which is the "worst" AC game...or maybe "least good" is a better description, since technically they're all good, imo.

Honestly, I think we got spoiled with three Ezio games. The gameplay and the engine got better as each game came out and you really got into Ezio's story. Hell, you even got some closure to Altiar's story in Revelations. But this guy in Ass Creed 3? I don't give two shits about him...sorry. I actually enjoyed playing at the [redacted] at the beginning, but just don't care much for the story overall. That and the new engine, while it looks good, introduces glitches and errors we haven't seen since AC1 or 2.

Oh well, I'm still going to finish it and replay parts to get 100% sync, but to be honest, I'd rather replay 2 or Brotherhood.

On a lighter note...so true, so true:

I'm having the same problem. It's really keeping me from getting into the game. Although the boat stuff is pretty neat that I've just gotten to.

And the glitches.. They are not even entertaining glitches, they're the kind of glitches that fuck up the game and that's pretty irritating.

When I find farming for better guns in Borderlands 2 (that I've beat on both difficulties and leveled up as much as I can) more fun that this game I know there's a problem. I keep telling myself it'll get better and it does, but it's still not really impressed me as much as I've really liked the other games in the series.

Regarding the combat, what version are you guys playing? I hear the PS3 version is the most messed up. I'm playing the 360 version and the general combat seems fine other than what I mentioned previously. I haven't heard anything about the PC version.

I do think Connor dicks around too much, though. Altaïr was quick to put an end to people, Ezio was a show off, but Connor just drags some of these kills out. As in, some people he'll cut on, then just over kill them - I mean, does this one guy really need his throat slit, heart stabbed, and his head bashed in? Though maybe so, because some of these dudes take a serious beating (or slicing, rather) and keep getting back up - that part is annoying.

Regarding the naval missions - I've only done the first one, though I hear that most people really love them, so I need to get back to those. A lot of people are hoping for DLC of a bunch of new naval missions. The one thing I hated from Revelations was the stupid tower defense missions, and would agree that these new naval missions are way better than that.

I haven't done much in terms of hunting and trading through the homestead...but it doesn't seem to be required, so I haven't had much reason to...which is another disappointment. The other games made me want to do all the optional stuff (like rebuilding Rome with Ezio), but this one, not so much.

For game breaking glitches, I'm pretty sure all my side missions are glitched. Not only does AC3 have hardly any Assassination Contracts on the map, but the one I've found, immediately ended as soon as I activated it. Any other little side missions seem to be the same...like these guys that I think I'm supposed to deliver messages for - as soon as I talk to them they just tell me "Thank You" and it's over. Perhaps I'm delivering to these guys and not for these guys, but if so, I don't recall ever being given a pile of letters to deliver across the colonies...

As an aside, I finally started AC: Bloodlines for PSP last night. I've been itching for another Altaïr story, so I had to order it. It's obviously much more like AC1 which is weird and refreshing at the same time. Controlling it on the PSP is strange, but it seems decent enough so far.
