Article on the making of Tapper

They could have made just 1 type of character on each level burp. Like a really disgusting guy... I guess that would have necessitated 1 chip for just that though so they left it out.

Good read, thanks for posting that.

Games really need to go back to being made by just a couple people...

It was very interesting to me that those guys worked at Marvin Glass. For those not familiar (which is probably the majority of people, I hadn't heard of him until I read about him recently), Marvin Glass was a really manic depressive toyman whose toy design firm created games such as Operation, Mousetrap, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, etc. There's a huge lack of information available on him which is unfortunate; the best source is the place I originally read about him, this book:

This has seemingly turned into an ad, but I assure you it's not. I'd check out that book if you have any toys you're as passionate about as you are arcade games. It goes into the creators' original inspiration as well as their failures and eventual success. There were some things, like Jenga, that took forever to catch on. A lot of ideas were born during the depression, when people were out of work and desperate to make a living.

I would love to hear what other ideas Marvin Glass and co pitched to Midway and other game companies; I'm sure they had some really great ideas that never reached fruition.

that's a pretty cool read. i can guess that the burping would've probably gotten really annoying. but i guess this means i'm officially a beer monster.

They just wanted an excuse to be professional burpers for a day!
