You clearly need more. The more you have, the less there will be on the world market... therefore the demand and value for this game will rise. Think about it. You could corner the market on Art of Fighting!
I also just realized that I failed to give you my Art of Fighting mini marquee when you were last out. I feel terrible about it. Send me your address and I'll send it to you!
I actually do have a fond memory of this game. On the last day of my local Aladdin's Castle being open they got in a MVS machine with Art of Fighting. They were given some special promo package for a national/world tournament for the game. I think the winner went on to play in a national event where he could win...something. I know an AES gold system was one of the prizes. SNK obviously wanted it to be a big promotion for the game, but no one had heard anything about it. The manager decided to just go with it since it was the last day and put together the location's qualifying tournament with whoever was lurking around. They managed to round up about 10-ish of us to play.
They were wheeling machines out all around us during the tournament, until the new MVS machine was the last one left. It was kind of strange. One guy was really anxious to move the MVS and kept telling the manager to "kick the damn kids off so we can get going", but the manager kept derailing him from the MVS by telling him to cart something else off. The second the final match was over, *BLIP!*. Screen was off, game was unplugged and the guy slammed the handtruck underneath and wheeled it out. Literally while hands were still on the control panel. We were handed prizes and told to get out.
I lost early, but I received prizes I wasn't supposed to get anyways. The package contained prizes for something like the top 16-ish of a larger tournament...but since there was enough for everyone he just handed out the top 10-ish prizes to everybody that participated and stuck around until the end.. I got an incredibly cheesy AOF poster I long lost and a memory card. I can't find a picture of the poster, but OMG...it would be perfect for your AOF shrine. Obviously drawn up in a hurry by someone at SNK's American branch.
I road the bus home thinking that was the last time I would play arcade games in that place. I was wrong, they were just turning it into a Cyberstation.
The gameplay is kind of horrible, but the desperate clinging to beat-em up narrative cliches in a fighting game, the large character sprites and the zooming camera made it...well...unique?
Boring story is done.
I know this is evil, but I always wanted someone to stock up on the cheapest and most unwanted game cart of any system, and then burn them all.
I think Atari 2600 fans should donate their unwanted copies of Pac-Man to one person and have a huge bonfire once they've reached like 5,000 carts. I think that would drive the value up at least a buck.![]()
