Picked one up a week ago. One I had never seen BITD or played but the game and art looked cool. I am not disappointed. I will get pics when I get caught up on other stuff. It really is a fun game. The Jeep can haul ass. :)

Super Fu(*&ing cool ass game. Keeper for sure.

I remember loving that back in high school. Great for 2 players especially. I finally got to play it again at CAX and realized how darned short the game is. I had to play on my knees. Still fun though!

I just picked up one about a month ago, awsome game. I am way better at it now than when I was a kid and I can't say that for many of these classics! Enjoy your Armor Attack,

Looks like there is much love for the AA. :)
It was funny to me how much attention the game seemed to draw as I was bringing it back from Houston, TX. It was standing upright in my truck and generated lots of looks - assuming it got so much attention because it has complete side art on both sides.

I also played it at CAX and had to really hunch over. Lots of fun, though! I keep hoping that one will pop up in the Minnesota area.

Stop it, I almost start to regret selling-through the Rock-ola AA that I found in Belgium.

I had never heard of the game but I knew it was a vector game and of cause the Rock-ola is something special, especially in Europe ! Never seen it in my youth. Never played it outside of MAME.

Since it has the Cinematronics set-up I knew I'd probably not get it running and it was not a game that I wanted to keep. So I sold it to my good friend Andreas in Germany who I am sure will get it running fine :)

Armor Attack is a great game and I believe it can convert it to Rip Off by removing the green overlay and swapping some roms (sound board optional). I happen to be lucky enough to have both boards and a spare overlay so I've never had to actually unseat any roms ;-)

I only have the one Cinematronics game but it's one of those games in the collection that I will probably never let go.

I liked mine enough to sink $800 into it. I now call it "Money Pit." Good thing I like the game, it's a permanent part of my lineup :) Fun alone or with a friend.

LOL - I send mine to CAX and takes my chances.

Good to know. The fellow I bought it from indicated it might be possible to swap boards in. I have not checked the pinouts of other boards, yet.

The boards are 99.9% the same. I can't recall if Rip Off is using 2716 and Armor Attack 2732 eproms or they are the same. Otherwise the cpu board should be identical.

Edit: Just checked the mame driver and Rip Off is using 4 x 2k eproms (2716) and Armor Attack has 4 x 4k eproms (2732).

I don't believe AA and RO are rom swapable. RO and Star Castle definitely are.

You can definitely switch boardsets in the cabinet, although you might have to switch control panels as well.

What does your overlay look like for RipOff?

Armor Attack is a great game. I had never played it in the arcades back in the day, but after I played it at Dave's (ArcRevival) I had to have one. One popped up on CL the day after I decided I wanted one and grabbed it. I'm glad I did.

An Armor Attack could run Rip Off but not vice versa. Also be aware that most Cinematronics games got around "ROM swaps" by changing the control panel mapping on each game. For instance, although Star Castle and Rip Off use the same board and even the same type of controls, the inputs specified in the ROMs are different. An example is "player one left" from Rip Off maps to the same input as "fire" in Star Castle.

You either need the control panel or you need to hack the ROMs.

many years ago Steve O made a hack to cinematronics to change games with a rotary switch. I think he built one for himself that did armor attack, star castle and rip off. It had to have each sound board(I think wired in at the same time), but it ran on 1 board.

He made a kit for me to do star castle and ripoff in the same cab, but I never installed it. I had a SC but could not find RO. It came with a RO control panel.

He also made a kit for me (I sent him some Star Hawk joysticks).

Once RipOff is back up and running I plan on dragging out the kit and seeing if it works.

Ahh the memories of playing Armor Attack with my brother at Zayre---back when departmant and grocery stores had games....To owners out there...Does the game get real montonous gameplay wise after awhile???

This and Star Castle are the two Cinematronic vectors I remember the most. Don't think I ever saw a Rip Off back then....

armor attack is tons of fun. I am not very good, so its never really montonous to me..

I prefer ripoff. one game you probably never played and is very good is solar quest.
