We just go in a Arkinoid upright today. Looked great in the craigslist ad. We had a loyal customer pick it up that swears that the monitor was fine. We finally got the heavy beast inside and plugged it in. The game is playable but there's a little bit of droopy image going on the right side. I checked the board chips and replugged the monitor wiring harness but it didn't fix it. Please tell me that is an easy fix and that I don't have to recap a monitor of a machine that was working 100% 20 minutes ago... I just bought the damn thing!

So I had to take a second look at the now deleted Craigslist ad and the top left pic does show the screen problems. DAMN YOU CRAIGSLIST AND YOUR SMALL PICS!

The Ad:

Arkanoid Arcade Game - 1987 Tournament - $150 (Shakopee, MN)

Game in good condition. I purchased it as is about 4 years ago. I need the space in our spare room to turn it into an official office, so the game needs to go.

Cabinet is basic (no side graphics) but the rest of the game is in great shape. It is set up for play by entering quarters (or manually tripping the quarter lever inside the door).

First $150 takes it....good deal for the $$

recapping a monitor is an easy fix. Sure it would be great if all fixes were as simple as adjusting a pot but that's seldom reality. If capping a monitor doesn't fall in the simple fix category then you are likely gonna be in a bad place and out a ton of money when you games actually start having real issues as they eventually will.

Either snap a good pic of the monitor chassis and post it here so we can help you identify it or click on the links here to see pics and identify it yourself.

It make have a label on the chassis that correctly identifies what the chassis is but it's always good to visually identify a chassis as often the tags are on the monitor frame and sometimes different chassis get swapped into non original frames.

cap kit for a Wells Gardner K7000 series is what you need.

I assume the other person reposted your pic because the label on the frame shows the tag for a WG 7901 which is what the monitor chassis is. Although as per your response it was not clear to everyone and as I previously mentioned the labels can end up mismatched over time so a visual ID is the best case scenario.

Most likely the source you buy the cap kit from will list this as a WGk7000 series cap kit and not specifically a WG7901 but I suppose some sources might list a WG7900 or WG7901 cap kit. I haven't looked at all sources. Pretty sure it will just be WG7000

Without pulling the board out just yet, could anyone identify it and tell me what cap kit that I need for it?

It's a Wells Gardner 7901.

Not sure if a 7000 series Cap kit will work or not, but it looks like new caps in there already. The two dark blue caps might be old though.

It appears to have been capped already with a Bob Roberts cap kit. I'm actually sure that that caps are fine (for a Bob Roberts kit). The dark blue caps that were mentioned are original to the chassis, and don't come with many kits (though they do come with mine). They're the bipolar caps that are inline with each colour (red, green, blue).

What appears to need adjusting are HEIGHT and the 50/60Hz pot. I'd try the 50/60Hz pot first.

I would also replace that flyback. It's got the white knobs, and at this age are prone to failure.

If you feel that you can not handle this repair, I can. I charge $50 plus parts and shipping. You'll get parts, solder rework and 24 hours of bench test time.

I played with the V and H knobs on the board and got rid of the droopiness but the right side is still cut short and overlapped that side of the screen. Any Help?
