Strange fault with an original Taito Arkanoid 2: Revenge of Doh JAMMA PCB - when in game, coin 1 won't register, ie no credits given when coin 1 is pressed. Coin 2 works fine and gives credits. However .......... put the board into test and coin 1 registers just fine, along with coin 2!

Bit puzzled by this. EPROMs verify okay.

Also, can a joystick be used with the game? Or is it spinner only?

Thanks

That's a spinner-only game, and you'll want it that way, believe me. Accuracy is key in this game. You do NOT want to play it with anything else, not even a rollerball.

I'd check the JAMMA edge connector, to make sure that you've got a good solid connection. Hit it with a pencil eraser to clean it up. You might be registering a signal on test, but not enough to work properly in game.

At the very least, re-seat the connector, double check the 5v line at the switching power supply, and report back with any results.

Thanks - edge connector is good, contact is good and have also cleaned the connector. Damn peculiar .............

This is even stranger - while both coin buttons continue to register in Test, in-game I'm finding that coin 2 is only working (most but not all of the time) if I first activate the TILT switch (so TILT comes onscreen), and sometimes the TILT switch works as coin 2 as well! Beginning to wonder if the custom SIL 'PC050CM' is at fault ...........

Well, you could always try this:

Your R.O.D. problems must've been networking with my R.O.D. over the weekend. I had trouble getting it to power up on Saturday. Monitor would blank out and nothing would work. I moved it around and plugged it into a new source to get it working again, but it was popping out the circuit breaker after I did that. (too much running on one circuit I guess).

Sorry to bump this. But I have the EXACT same problem with mine. Any solution out there?

Stuck (or incorrectly wired) coin switch. Disconnect coin door wiring and re-test.
No. I'm trying it directly from the JAMMA connector. I even tried another JAMMA harness. There has to be something on the board. The copper trace from pin 16 (component side) and into the first component (a resistor network array) on the board is also ok.
