ARII popping Fuse and J6

Long story short, I have an Atari ROTJ popping the fuse at F4 and F5 on the power brick. It also is sparking at J6 on the ARII-02.

Any ideas?
 
Damn! Without looking at the scat, I would say... Pull the power brick and test the BR underneath to see if it is blown.
 
I am unsure how to test.

I did order a ARII rebuild, bridge and big blue from Bob.

I was leaning towards the bridge since I had another game that was similar a long time ago.
 
Pull the power brick and flip it over.
The BR looks something like this...
.....+.........AC
...................
...................
...................
AC..............-

Set meter to diode test
Red lead to -
Black lead to each AC

Black lead to +
Red lead to each AC

All should read .400 - .600
report what you get
This is done with NO POWER

On the >l setting-----

Red to -
AC1 -430to460
AC2 -440-470

Black to +
AC1 -445to480
AC@ - 430-450

Bridge is good

Test the bridge on the A/RII at CR6-CR8 (right hand side of the board)
It is a little different as you are testing individual diodes. One direction should read .400 - .600 and the other direction should read way high IIRC.
 
The Orange/Black is going from the + on the BR to the Cap.
The Purple/White is going from the - on the BR to the Cap.
 
On other Atari Bricks I've seen, there has been 5 fuses. There is a spot for one, however, looks like it was never wired that way.

I get this information from the Centipede I just worked on recently.
 
The 15 pin connector on the power brick is J5 and it numbers as follows...

Time to test it under power
meter set to 20vdc
Black lead to pin 4 or 5
Red lead to pin 1, 2, 3

meter set to 200vac
Red lead to pin 6
Black lead to pin 7

meter set to 20vac
Red lead to pin 8
Black lead to pin 9

Could be an internally shorted big blue, but that wouldn't account for no voltage on pin 6 & pin 7. I am thinking that your trans is bad.
 
Does the fact that it only has 4 of the 5 fuses populated (and wired) lean your decision towards this? Is it worth the time to try the rebuild of the Cap and Bridge?
 
Not really, most of the Atari power bricks have only 4 of 5 fuses populated.

I would reflow the transformer lugs with new solder, and test to see what is coming out of the transformer lugs.
