I've got this Area51/Max Force.. and sometimes it'll constantly reset.. other times it will say "watchdog ... three strikes and your out" and other times it will freeze to a white screen.

Are these boards supposed to have heat sinks/fans, because mine doesn't have any. I seem to have all the proper voltages going to it, so the only thing I can think of is heat..

Anyone else have problems with this board?

thanks

I always found them to have power problems... IIRC there's an LED for low voltage and high voltage... I'd usually have to keep them at high voltage (~5.2V at the board). The other thing is the hard drives that fail of course.

AH, I was setting it so it wouldn't display either low or high. Ill try setting it to a bit higher.

Where on the board do you measure the voltages? Just off the JAMMA connector or the HDD?

I had an Area 51 that kept going into watchdog when it was in attract mode.
I replaced the HD when I added the Max Force kit and now it is fine.
Both the hi and low voltages are good.

I traced it to the addon riser board...

I would press down on one of the IC's or connector and the game would start working.

Tried to re-solder some of the connectors.. but I think I made it worse/toasted it as now the HD wont power up when connected to the gameboard! I guess my soldering iron isn't ESD protected.

=(

Based on your recent posts about the monitor on this game getting flaky, I'd say your flyback is beginning to die. The voltage spikes caused by a failing flyback transformer caused my Mortal Kombat cab to reboot constantly too. I didn't realize what the problem was until the flyback finally gave out. It was only then that I realized that the 2 issues were related.
