I have two area 51 site 4 boards that both have an error on bootup. I used the image from mame but it doesnt seem like that one works. I get a bad home block and then says no boot device found and just sits there. The remember reading that later atari boards dont like cf and only reboots when I use it with the cf. Does anyone have a good image or steer me in the right direction

thanks

Update: Looks as if this is a common problem with the mame image.

After reading that it seems if I get a good HD image I should be good. I have an original drive but not a good image. So I Dont need the whole drive.

update;

I cleaned all the ram and re connected all connectors and wires. Now comes up with bad drive error. Im using a compact flash with the image from mame. So still not working yet

Anyone else have this problem

I'd be happy to have this problem. Mine eats power supplies. Put in new power supply, turn on, starts booting up, dies, power supply is dead...

Sounds like a shorted cap on the board, Mod... Check the resistance between the +5 and +12 connections to ground. If you have a short, you can look for heat darkened components or use an ESR meter to find where the short is.

All an ESR meter is, is a high frequency milliohmmeter which will show you the differences in hundredths of an ohm of the resistance in a circuit. Find the area of the board with the lowest resistance and you'll be right where the short is.

Now for the failed Area 51 S4 drive... How are you putting the .chd data on the drive?

Using chdman through a usb adapter..I know it works i used the same set up for many seattle boards and the original area 51

Are you talking about the Area 51 board, or the PS board? I need to get my damn PS's working again before I can even attempt any troubleshooting on my Area 51 board....
