id like to start by saying im kinda new to the whole arcade game scene. Just picked up my first arcade game a lil more than a week ago and looking to expand both knowledge and build a nice collection of my own.

i had a general question just wondering if it is possible to make an area 51 site 4 arcade machine into an area 51 / maximum force combo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

First welcome to KLOV!

You can do it by taking out the area 51 site 4 board and hard drive and replace it with one of the following options:

1. A area 51/maximum force board and hard drive - difficult to find ($175 and up)
2. A area 51 board that has been upgraded using a kit you buy on eBay. The kit gives you new chips and a new hard drive. You do need a special kind of Area 51 board to do the upgrade. The ebay auction can tell you what you need. Area 51 board ($100 and up) upgrade kit ($65).

You can buy boards here from time to time or on eBay.
I might have a Area 51 board that you can upgrade if your interested.

Here's a link to the auction:

Hope that helps.

id like to say thanks for the fast reply and the help

so i would have to buy a board as well as the items in that auction correct?

and from what it seems it has to be a dual layer board as well.

just to make things clear the link below seems to be what you are referring to your first option...sorry im kinda new lol

Thanks again for all the information and the help to get me started with this!

Q1 - yes a a51 dual layer board and the kit
Q2 - yes a dual layer board
Q3 - Kinda that is just the same guy that sells the kit, selling a Area 51 board he converted. So yes and no.

You can buy actual Area 51/MF boards that were made that way by the factory.
Like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/AREA-51-MAXIMUM...ultDomain_0&hash=item2a0aa80f08#ht_1827wt_689

So to recap:
Choice 1 - buy a dual layer area 51 board and buy the kit
Choice 2 - buy an already converted area 51 board and hard drive
Choice 3 - buy a factory made area51/MF board and hard drive

All three choices do the same thing.

Did I mention a working Area 51 Site 4 board and hd can sell for $150 or higher?

I have a area 51 that I bought the a51/MF upgrade for.
I also bought a area 51 site 4 board and hd as well.

I hope to add a jamma switcher and have all three games in one cabinet.
Both machines use a standard res monitor, but Area 51 site 4 is a jamma+ and area51/MF is just Jamma.
I think the difference is that site 4 has stereo speakers and a51/MF is mono.

Maybe someone else will chime in to verify.

Here's info on the multiple jamma switcher.

wow installing the jamma switcher seems like it would take some sufficient knowledge to do and i would like to achieve that some day....thanks for the additional link on the original one from the factory probably what i am going to go with....all cables and everything is able to work from the original site 4 boards since they are both jamma correct?

best of luck to your switcher conversion if you get that up and runnin post some pics would really be interested in seein other peoples successes

thanks again

My understanding is that the A51 s4 and the a51/mf boards should just swap out. No additional wiring needed.

The jamma switcher is really easy.
The jamma switcher board replaces your current board and hooks directly up to the cabinets harness.
Then you connect one of the switchers Switch boards to the jamma connection on the a51 s4 board and connect it to the switcher board with the provided die cables.

Then do the same thing to the A51/MF board.

Each board will need it's own power supply.

You mount all three boards in the cabinet, some guys add an extra piece of wood to do so.

You switch between the games by pressing p1 & p2 at the same time.

Pretty easy.

Actually I haven't done a switcher yet, just read allot.
I'm hoping if I'm wrong someone else will chime in.

You know how KLOV can sometimes be, slow with advice but really quick to correct bad advice. :D
