I have an Area 51 Site 4 that will reset when the action gets kinda intense. I'm told that this game is something of a voltage hog (which probably makes sense having to power both a JAMMA interface and a dumpy PC motherboard) and I'm aware that I have my power supply set on the very low end cause it was running MVC2 with a Capcom I/O and didn't require a whole lot to operate.

what am I looking at here, something like 5.2V at maybe one of the fan headers? I don't even know what's an optimal spot to test at.

thanks

I wish I could answer this. I have one (kit) that blew a power supply after 3 months. Got a new one and it blew that one about 2 minutes after powering up. I don't know what the hell is causing it - board, HD, coin door, whatever. And I can't find anything wrong with the PS's, but they won't come on now. usually they'll shut down, then restart when a load is applied, but not these. Pisses me off, so I set it aside...

were you running off JAMMA or dropping an AT power supply in? it can take both... I don't know how that works with the JAMMIT board though.

I actually tried running the motherboard straight to PC hardware (was gonna run MemtestX86 on it) but it wouldn't sync up with my LCD. I imagine the built-in VGA port runs at straight 15KHz.

I went back to work and grabbed the JAMMIT board, I'll have to plug it into my supergun instead I guess.

Don't go too high - the Atmel chip on the jammit board (when I looked it up) is kinda sensitive. I wouldn't go past 5.2-5.3. Unplug the watchdog jumper to see if the resetting goes away - if so, just leave it off.

I was considering that too. now that I think about it, I think that's how I received the board. heh

but really though I think the +5 is set on the low end right now, probably like 5.10. I went and redid all the power supplies like that... 5.1 at the chips.

From all the reading I did troubleshooting mine, I think that watchdog was hit or miss on a good day, so although you might twitch leaving it off, I wouldn't worry about it.

All it really does is reset the game if it locks up, so unless you're leaving it in a commercial environment 24/7, I think it'll be ok.

it is going in a commercial environment lol.

it's ok though, I went to some horseshit maintained game rooms and saw this game running and it didn't skip a beat. I'm not worried about it. I'll give it a voltage increase and just disconnect the watchdog. if anything I'll run it for a few months and move on to something else if need be.

check your caps......check your caps

dont increase your voltage

they should be your issue. even if they "look good" replace them

is this why you sold it? :D j/k

I've seen many blown motherboard caps in my day. I'll come up with a kit for this if I get time over the weekend.
