Does anyone where I can find some decent side art and front art for Area 51? I've been looking at EBay and there are a few pieces that I interested in but there doesn't seem to be any art for the front. I am trying to make my Jamma showcase look nice because it is currently all white. I will probably upgrade to include Maximum Force so I might want art that includes both games.

I've attached an image of the machine.

I just finished confirming that my machine can be upgraded to have Maximum Force. Now I just need to convince my wife...that's going to be difficult.

The picture you have is of a showcase cabinet. Even if you do find the AREA 51 side art it may not fit onto that cabinet as you would like; if that is the one you are performing the resoration on. It would look really cool however to have that on the big screen!

I just bought the conversion kit off E-Bay. There is a guy selling an entire kit for the dual board system for only 60$.

As for your vinyls
Anthony at Quarter arcade usually has these in stock as NOS products

Also I found this; it says they are out of stock but you could probably persuade them to run you a set anyways since they already have the files. I know nothing about them so I vouch for nothing in regards to the quality of work

You may want to ask Rich at Thisoldgame.com and see if he has the files and would be willing to inkjet you a set.

I am betting aside from NOS you will have a very hard time finding any silk screen art for the machine.

Thanks for the help. I was playing the game yesterday with my wife and one of the guns stopped working. It would still point when we got to the high score screen so I think it might be something with the trigger.

These guns are very notorious for being damaged due to the shoddy way the guns are held into place. Take the gun apart and make sure that all of the connections are good on the micro switch and the optical board. I then replaced the screws with new nutscrews which looks a lot nicer anyways.

I think its only a few bucks. Drill out any old screws that are rusted/rounded out and will not loosen.

Why? Its only like 50.00 bucks. The HDD is about $20.00 and the chips are about 30.00. Just swap them and plug in the new hard drive and your good to go.

my wife hates to spend money...I guess I should consider myself lucky

Helped a friend pick up a Neo-Geo and a converted cab with Area51/Maximum Force yesterday. He ended up giving me the board for Area 51 and Maximum Force because he just wanted the monitor from cab; he might give me the cab after he pulls everything he wants out.

The board works but I noticed less responsiveness from the guns than I was experiencing from the original board I had and I'm not really sure if I need to clean the board somehow or if the humidity was affecting the game in any way.

Any thoughts?

The guns need to be calibrated to the screen and could possibly have some differences in the way they feedback information from the guns. See if re-calibrating fixes the resonse issues. I had to re-calibrate the machine that I brought home because the guns needed to be repaired and then would not work properly. Re-calibrated through the test menu and it works great.

I bought an area 51 that had some recoil sx (something like that anyway). I had to recalibrate them every time I turned the machine on. I bought some new guns from Quarterarcade, and it is probably about the best ~$130 I have spent on arcade stuff. They just work great every time I play.

I might end up going that route. A friend just gave me an extra gun (used) to try and he also gave me a marquee, although I think the marquee is too small. In return I found a Super Chase marquee for him so he can begin restoring a Super Chase that someone converted to Area 51.
