hello everybody.

I recently acquired an area 51. it works fine when you first fire it up, but after about a half hour of being on, anytime you pull the trigger on either gun, the monitor shifts for a split second (like it looses v-hold just for a split second). this happens even if the gun is pointed away from the monitor. it makes it so you can't even play the game. also when the game is first fired up, the top portion of the screen jumps up and down I little bit. thought maybe they were related problems

any advise or input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
alex

Short answer; Don't use the gun :).

The real answer is elusive, The fact that the screen jumps up and down is kind of concerning to me. If I understand that game, it uses a light gun that will pickup where the bullet is supposed to hit and will paint that on the screen. The other fact is that the game being on for some time 1/2 hour is the other thing bothering me. I would check the voltages as I always do, but I think you will find in the end you have a capacitor problem. I am not so sure if it is on the pcb but I am leaning to the monitor with that jumppy part in it.

Again I have not had any real experience with that hardware and would wait for someone who has worked on that game to chime in on this.

My felling is that you have failing caps on the monitor board.
