Are Your New Short Leaf Switch Buttons Too Tall? Quick Easy Fix!!!

So I ordered new short leaf switch buttons for my control panel.

After installing them, I noticed that they stuck up farther than the original buttons. (new one on the left):

After looking them over, you can clearly see why. Although they are the same total length, the stopper at the end is a different thickness. Thus allowing the button to stick up higher:

So here's an easy solution that I came up with. I bought these at Home Depot in the nut and bolt section in the pull out drawers:

I cut them on one end and twisted it a little making it look like a lock washer:

Gently slip on to the button one at a time, adjusting the washer back to it's normal shape and size once it is on all the way:

Almost perfect! :D

What a huge difference in game play. That little extra throw makes the button feel totally different.

Hope this helps someone out there, I'm super happy with it.

You 'rediscovered' a thing that already exists.

Buttons have had the option of adding a shim, which normally is a metal washer, and can be added to any button (though it's easier on the ones that have the c-clips). You'll see that some buttons have them and others don't, if you buy batches of random used buttons.

I prefer to have the shims, as yes, it does change the throw. I love them on my AD.

Funny, my son and i were just discussing this last night. on a couple of games with these new buttons.. thanks for the idea.

I figured someone had come up with a solution before, I just couldn't find any threads on it.

Oh, well, better late than never!

Brentradio, yours is a excellent refinement as the other option mostly works with Buttons that have a c-clip. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks!

Plus I like that fact that they are fiber and not metal...
