Are we all sick in the head?

YES!

All the metal Repro work that has been going on has had me excited.

If it's not KLOV, it's Reddit. Or Digg. Or Fark. Or 4chan. There's something about human nature and the Internet that influences you to waste time on a daily basis, you just happen to do so on a forum that aligns with one of your niche interests.

Sick? Yes! But so is everyone else. No matter young or old, you always find some type of addiction to waste the day away. We all just picked a good one!

The best thing about this hobby is all the different facets, you can focus on restoring, playing, the social side, hunting deals, making deals, etc.

Besides a heavy dose of nostalgia, there is the competitive aspect if that's your thing.

Best hobby ever!

love it hate it. since i found this site everyday looking for new stuff. already in a month found a marquee i was looking for 2 years. have now other plans for new projects.

This thread goes along with the "You know you're an addict when..." thread.

Sick? Maybe a little. Having fun? For sure.

For me it's all of the above. I love working on the games and making them work. I'm learning a TON. So that's great--and rewarding when you do something like repair a vector monitor and it works.

I love socializing too... I don't think I would do this hobby if I were a recluse. In order to enjoy the games I really like to have people around playing them. In fact, I usually only play them if there is someone present.

The competitiveness for me isn't hardcore... it's just... playful. When someone comes over and they see me get a decent score on a game it's fun to have them try and beat it... and when they do I inevitably want my initials back at the top. It's a vicious cycle. The sad thing is that my scores never even scrape any of the scores you see at Twin Galaxies. Who has time to play Star Wars for 24 hours anyway?

I've got a lot of hobbies. This one is my favorite by far.

This is my favorite hobby and it tends to get you wrapped up quickly. I love restoring them, playing them, and maintaining them. As was said I also love the social aspect of game playing; it's easy to have a prty when people have so many different things to do.

The only people sick in the head are the one's that don't appreciate 80's games enough to have them all over their house, patio, garage, friends and relatives houses, and multiple storage units. WTF is wrong with those people.

collecting is a disease with no cure except more stuff. With me it's a debate since I'm not exactly middle class enough to go around buying machines more than once a year or two. if I get a better job I'll be right in there with a few things tho ^^

Being new at the whole thing; about 6 months now. My wife has not come to term with the issue. The space they take up, the fact that the breakers are right at the limit, the cost of machines, the cost to fix them, the cost to maintain them.

You know your an addict when you have to unplug your water heater to run all of your arcade games without popping a circuit breaker. (true story too)

You know your an addict when you decide your son's braces should wait until next year so you can plan it into flexpay but then buy a few hundred dollars in machines and parts.

You know your an addict when you read an add in Cragslist and already start making plans to buy the machine, transport it, find a spot for it... But you either hate the game or have never played it.

You know your an addict when you have video games in the Sun room attached to your kitchen.

You know your an addict when you go through forums, CL, and Ebay longer than you spend sleeping and talking to your wife combined.

SIGH.... I wish my wife liked video games instead of hating them.
