Are there USB rotary controllers, or is there an easy way to achieve this?

Hey everybody,

I did a little searching around on google about this topic beforehand but didn't really turn up anything. According to an old thread on arcadecontrols, as of November 2006 there wasn't a usb compatible rotary controller but some guy named Randy T was working on one. What's the easiest option for an authentic-feeling rotary controller to use with MAME? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Couldn't tell from your post if you knew this, but Randy T runs www.groovygamegear.com .
Maybe look around over there and drop him a message if you don't find what you want. I didn't really keep up with the rotary stick stuff, but I thought he made an encoder that supported them, not the sticks themselves. Could be totally off base with that, though.

I didn't know he ran that site; thanks for letting me know! Apparently I was asking for the wrong type of control; what I actually was looking for was a usb-compatible spinner control, not something like the LS-30 joysticks (even though those are awesome, too). It seems this is what I'm looking for:

Is this going to be my best bet or would you guys recommend something else?

Hmm well I found this comparison guide and it seems like the Oscar Vortex should work well:

But does anybody know which is better: the TurboTwist 2 or the Oscar Vortex? Or perhaps another model that I missed?

That's an old article. Oscar Controls doesn't exist anymore, and hasn't for a few years. You should do a search on BYOAC for a recent "what's the best spinner?" thread, or start one of your own. That site is dedicated to what you're trying to do; while this site is geared toward original arcade machines.

Ok fair enough. I know they're just as friendly over there as people are here at klov, I just don't frequent over there as much.

I have the Groovygamegear spinner and have never had an issue with it. Plugged it in, was playing Tempest with it minutes later.

If you order it, go for the weight. Feels much better than without it.
