Are there good 19" CRT Monitors anywhere in the world?

Your right. Your boat has the occasional part in it and mine has 70+ 42" terminators in it with a 20% failure rate thanks to poor quality monitors, computers and power supplies in them.

Great.

Thats the point I've been trying to impress upon the manufactures in our industry. So far the conversation with my supplier and the manufactures has slightly gone in my favor, its not the result I hoped for but I can live with what they came up with. I'm not allowed to discuss the details BTW...

I was considering going Homepins route and having some chassis built but the failure rate of the CRT's in new games makes it cost prohibitive.

Thats where they are headed. Just about all new games come with LCD's. Even the new Pac Man Arcade Party from Namco has an LCD in it.

LCD's are not bullet proof though. I've got a couple of Terminators with bad panels, about 30 H2 Overdrives with SCREEN BURN??? and numerous bad power supplies and LCD controllers. Oddly enough all of the H2 Overdrives with screen burn have Makvision monitors in them. They are obviously using poor quality panels. None of my Wells LCD's have screen burn.

That failure rate of the LCD's is as follows from most failures to least.

Billabs, Makvision, VisionPro, Kortek and Wells. Theres also another brand that we end up with that starts with an "A" but I cant recall the full name. The power supplies and controllers fail in those a lot. They show up in a lot of GlobalVR games.

It does suck that the only CRT monitors that are still available new and are reasonably priced are of questionable quality.

I have 6 Imperial Kortek monitors new in the box that I picked up for short money. I have two more installed in games and they have been ok so far.

The only issue I have had with them is they are very sensitive to magnetism. I had to take out the original speaker in my Pac-Mania and replace it with a speaker with a much smaller magnet because the factory speaker was distorting the colors on the screen. The same speaker didn't have any impact on the original Sharp monitor.

Another time I walked by with a 10 inch subwoofer in my hands and the screen on the Kortek went crazy, but the screen on my Galaxian with the WG 4601 was perfectly fine at the exact same distance.

what about happ lcds?I saw they have some models, are they any good?

Vision Pro = Happ

Happ also sells Makvision.

I'm going to be giving Neiman Displays a shot here in a bit. I've got to call Rick (the owner of the company) and work out the details. If his monitors are any good I will only buy from him.

Rick Nieman is pretty good. He stands behind his product. He worked for Electrohome and Nanao at one time.

Yeah, I read that. He was a design engineer on the GO7 I think. Nanao also made/makes some really good monitors so that speaks of him well too.

Hey Gamefixer and Ken Layton, did Rick take care of you? Or are there any other new good sources? What about Jen Shinn?
thanks!
