Are the Pole Position Sit-down cabs very rare at the moment ?

Hey guys,I'm looking around for a Pole Position, but I was wondering how often does the Sit-Down cabs come up, or are they getting rare ? Any help would be great, thanks

My theory is that they are only more rare because of the unreliabilty of the boardset combined with the space they take up. That being said, when they do come up, they usually sell cheap. I will say that it is the absolute most awesome way to play the game. I drove 800 miles round trip for mine and it is NEVER leaving my collection. I love the game so much that I vectorized the Fuji Track topper a year or so back and had them reproed thru ThisOldGame (printing) and Takeman (mounting bracket). If you end up finding a cockpit (recommended), make sure to hunt down one of those fine toppers.

I always admired your machine, since I signed up to the forums . And at 800 miles, I don't blame u. What are the dimensions of your sitdown, if you don't mind ? Thanks

I will guess that many PP, UR & Sitdown, have met the landfill over the years. They are notoriously unreliable and when their earnings fell off they were tossed.

I paid a $100 for my cockpit. Art is almost perfect. Rear smoked plexi has a piece broke out. I plan to take it apart and do the blue molding like the pic above eventually. But it's a long term project game because of it's size it's in my garage. I had it working for a short while. But i need to do the power mod to the board sets.

I sold a working cockpit for $150 a couple of years ago. I have over twice that into the upright I have now (thanks in part to buying one of those toppers). I think Pole Positions are generally worthless until you decide you have to have one. Then they can get expensive. This is the third one that I have owned, and I think it will stay around for quite a while. I prefer the upright since that is what I played when I was a kid.

I have a working cockpit in ok shape. I did the power mods to it and I think I capped the monitor, but I otherwise haven't started restoring it.

Pole Position Cockpit in NY area...

They come up all the time. At least 4-5 in the NJ/Philly/De area over the last few months. I got mine in De for $300 working.

Do not overspend on one...

They are definitely not hard to find but like it's been said, Pole Position either upright or cockpit can be a pain to keep running. I have a cockpit cab and did a rebuild on both AR boards and replaced the edge connectors plus did the +5 and gnd jumpering to the test points. At first I had to cycle power a few times to get it to boot, but oddly enough since then it's behaved more and booting right up. I'm even running the original Matsushita monitor.

Not really rare, I picked up 2 in a bulk deal years ago. Both didn't work when plugged in, but I picked up like 10 cockpits that day, and I sold both fast. I didn't even drill the locks out of the one and the back door was cracked. Buyer got lucky since when the back door cracked, it disconnected the boards. All he did was plug them back in and had a fully working cockpit!! Didn't matter, it wouldn't have brought much more in $$ anyways!!!

Phetishboy, I love love your machine. I got the dimensions, just wondering how can I fit it into my basement. I see the height is 76 long,so I guess getting it into the door,it has to be standing up,my basement door opening is just about that height. On the flyer its says width/length 65 x 25 1/4 in. So its just as width as the Upright, and depth would be 65 in. How did you get it into your basement. JBK, I'm sorry to hear that, poor design.Zeno, thanks
Ring, good luck with your mods and thanks. Hi Paul, thanks for your input, I always played the cockpit when I was a kid,in 5-town long island at a place call Flea-Port,an indoor flea market, dam it was fun. Now browsing around this great forum,I understand why so many are problematic, what a shame.Tbbk ,any pics of your machine ? Davey, thanks. I'll send them a PM.scottmaggie, thanks thanks for the tip. I guess I need to do a massive CL search. You picked yours up for a good price, and it works ! Awesome. SuperGunGuru, glad to hear about your machine, any pics? brmorr,I would love to find one as easy as you guys do. I absolutely love this forum, you guys are so helpful, many thanks !

I had to completely disassemble my cockpit and reassemble it in the basement in order to get it into my game room. Did the same with my 4 player Demo Derby. Did the same with my old Star Wars cockpit in my old place as well.

Sounds good, any tips on the disassemble ? I kind of located one,non-working $ 250. I'm thinking :/
