Are that many people REALLY excited that a new Mortal Kombat is coming out???

Today, i was driving by the local Game Stop, and ALL of the glass frontage of the store was COVERED with Mortal Kombat posters and artwork. It looked like the kind of crazy hype that would be normally reserved for the next "Halo" or "Call of Duty" franchise release.

Personally, i never got into any of the MK games. I know that it has a decent following, but does it REALLY deserve this type of high profile hype??? Rather than being known for being a good (or even "great") playing game, it is mostly known for death sequence animations. Anyone on here actually "EXCITED" about, or looking forward to, this console game release?

I am excited because it appears to be a return to the old days of MK. The 3d crap, and even worse the version where you would jump in the air and stall there doing 20 hit punch/kick combos while floating made it horrid.

This seems to harken back to the old days of MK, I think it looks amazing, and haven't been excited for a console game in a long long time.

Although I'm more of a Street Fighter fan,I do like the MK series. The graphics look amazing, but the gameplay seems pretty clunky to me. You can play as Kratos though, which is a cool bonus especially if you're a fan of the God of War series. They also seem to have added back the choose your might mini game as well as some other new mini games. They also brought back the krypt from the later games where you can unlock hidden stuff which is cool too.I sure as hell won't be waiting in line to buy a copy on the day of its release, but I am looking forward to playing it.

The guys I work with are actually talking about it, which I don't usually hear -so yes, I think there is quite a bit of buzz about it.

Not a huge fighting game game guy, but this is supposed to be a return to the series original play style.

People on BYOAC are already building their own MK cabinet to throw an Xbox 360 into--just like they did for Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Uh oh. Look for empty Midway MK style cabs going for 300+ :)

BTW: This is one xbox game I'm looking forward to. I hate first person shooter crap.

I WAS looking forward to this, until I saw the videos of people playing the demo and showing how the gameplay is completely broken, and you can perform 100% combos with everyone with very little effort.

Is that surprising? The days of only a select few being able to pull off top-shelf combos are long gone.

I always hated the random, telephone-book combo system that the MK games used. I'm not going to memorize 10,000 different move sets, not to mention the Fatality/Animality/Babality/Friendship stuff. I also think the digitized graphics look like ass.

I guess I'm just a Street Fighter II fanboy.

I am interested, but not excited. If it was released in the arcade where you can play side by side, I would be excited. Online play and home arcade sticks just are not the same. MK was meant to be played in an arcade.

Having it being Banned in Australia and that if you are to sell it to anybody is Australia a felony has hyped it up a bit for me. I'm looking forward to it.

Not that many people are excited, that's why you're seeing all the over the top marketing. The new game isn't anything we haven't seen a hundred times before in every other MK game. After MKII they ran out of ideas, except for the Quan Chi character in MK4 and the infamous leg rip beatdown.

They're trying to market it as a return to the early days for obvious reasons, but from what they've shown it looks like every other stiff MK game since it went console only. Most (not all, there are a couple of notable new ones) of the fatalities they've shown are exactly the same as they've been since the game debuted. It's all very ho-hum, even if it plays halfway decent.

I assume you haven't played the demo then. Those combos are not as easy as you make it sound.

Also, I think I saw a Tag Mode. Like Tekken Tag. Ok, going today to reserve mine. Thanks fella's.
