Are Stern's noisier than Bally/Williams?

I visited Mighty Mikes in Sterling, VA the other day to play some and it just seemed like my tron's mechanicals (flippers, pop-bumpers, sling shots etc) are way louder than some of the older Bally games. Granted it could be new vs old and worn out but read somewhere that data east games were always "noisier" back then too. Is it the thickness of the playfield difference?

not complaining just was curious if others had thoughts.

This is a common complaint. I have never compared the cabinets, glass, or playfield but the general "pinball complainers" consensus is poorer build quality.

Stern recently replaced their tempered glass with commercial quality Saran Wrap. Unfortunately the sound deadening qualities of Saran Wrap is virtually non existent.

My acdc is louder than my other pins. But it is also more fun to play, so I'm good with that. Ed

I am good with it too because I play the tron at least every other night and it is challenging and hasn't gotten even close to getting old. Need to get some more pins to compare to. :)

I have noticed this as well. When my WCS94 has the glass off it is as loud as hell, but but when the glass is on it is fairly quiet.

He was just kidding it's the same glass, lol. If you wanted to go into typical stern bashing mode though, you could say:

"Yeah, Stern cheaped out with those new lockdown bars! They don't even hold the sound in! Ballys were so great they had anti-noise electronics inside the game that cancelled out the sounds when you hit the flipper buttons! Their glass channels on the side rails were made out of teflon so you can't hear around the edge of the glass, Stern makes theirs in China! Stern's coil wrappers are thinner, so you can hear the plungers smack the coil stops through the wrappers! Bally made their wrappers out of gold leaf! It insulates better. Bally cared more even though they shafted the entire industry and went to VEGAS BABY!!!!"

Yeah, but didn't Stern's leak more oil than the Bally/Williams' games?

LOL, alright, I was wondering how they could stop using tempered glass! Makes sense now :p
