I've been wondering this for a while and after a couple quick Google searches I'm not coming up with anything useful. Does anyone know of a place you can buy NEW CRT monitor frames?

(you know... for using with TV tubes and universal chassis...)

TIA, :beerchug:

Probably not, since the frames were usually just part of the monitor.

You can fabricated a tube mount with plywood and then mount the monitor boards to the edge of the cabinet, some japanese cabinets actually came that way.

You know, come to think of it, this would be a good metal fab project for someone to take on. Most of the monitor frames from BITD were 3 pieces, and could be disassembled and shipped flat. I'd bet someone (like Takeman, or the like) could repro some of the most common mounts and sell them. Maybe $40 or something.

Think about it:

  • Broken monitor chassis, that you repair: $40 (with yoke), OR replacement Alva chassis: $75
  • Free TV tube
  • Mount: $40
For less than $100-125 you can put yourself into basically a burn free monitor in the correct frame to mount to the cab you need.

Not a bad idea....

The problem is that right now I wouldn't see the frames as being in enough demand to be worth fabricating. People are still throwing them away at this point (snagged one out of a trashcan last night at the house Lanky Kong bought a cocktail at).

Yeah, almost ever collector I know has a few dead monitors you can grab a frame from.. Wouldn't mind having more k7000 19" ones with the plastic pcb holder though.. I can't see much of a demand really..

OK, so you guys who have all these frames laying around...send them to me. I'll use them in new builds and starting selling burn free CRT monitors.

Missing frames is the only reason I can't pull this off.

I'm actually doing that right now.. Have 30 or more 25" tubes and a dozen or so 19" all tv donors.. Matching them with k7000 chassis.. If I don't have a k7000 frame, I'll make one with other models..

I'm also lucky to have a couple Op friends that hook me up with lots of parts :)

I have 5 monitors with misc problems im trying to give away. Come get them!!!

Not sure why but I don't have any dead enough monitors to consider their frames spare. So far I've disassembled two 4600 monitors and I'm not sure why... I felt a little bad doing it. Only problem with those monitors was *EXTREME* burn.

And yep, I've been looking out for tubes I can use on them but I'm not having luck with those.

If you were at MGC you missed theM I had 5-6 for sale for $15 each. I had wells and G07s vert and horz. I can still sell you some.

I visit friends in Madison all the time. I will take them along next time, and let you know. Otherwise I am going to have a KLOV swapmeet and get together at my place this summer.

K7xxx are the only chassis I'm having good results with when tube swapping. Found a few drop in replacements for GO7s, but both shorted out my chassis.. Have tried a few k4900 and 4600 swaps, but couldnt converge well.. With yoke swaps..

K7000, k7200, K7201 and up 19" and 25" have been a breeze.. 1 out or every 3 black plastic case tvs have had almost perfect matching original yokes!

I hope this isn't the normal experience, even when using Junknet as a reference. I have three TV tubes that I'll have to use the original arcade yokes with.

I use junknet as a basic resource.. As I've found many tvs not listed. It was only one tube that damaged my go7 chassis, so it's not normal. Others have had good luck swapping 4900, 4600, go7, etc.. I just haven't

Did someone mention frames.......:D
It's difficult to tell, but they're disassembled and individually wrapped.....probably 30 frames.

How about a fabricated frame for those damn 20" tubes that don't fit normal monitor frames. Even some kind of adapter bracket would be nice. I have a few 20" 10 pin tubes that will work fine with 4900's and G07's and just don't want to throw em' away.

I guess im lucky enough of a packrat that even when i mad a monitor with a bed tube and no chassis i would still keep the frame. Like i new someday i would want them or something.

I almost tossed several a couple years back and since ive been glad i kept them because i ended using some of them.

Make a wanted post. Im sure you could get some cheap here, i know im not the only packrat. Depending on which frame, some unscrew and will lay pretty flat for cheaper shipping.
