Are Happ 8 Way Competitions Really Noticeably Worse Than IL Euros?

sunset riders, like most of the konami games at the time, originally had wico 8 way leaf. I wouldn't put either happ comp or IL in that cab.

Wow. The whole bat length argument was 50% of my concern, so looked further into this. It seems my Sunset Riders joystick bases are recessed about .25 to .5" into the underside of the control panel, creating the difference when I compare it to my ILs in my MK1.
So now that bat height is the same, and gameplay won't be noticeably different with my style games, it's just a matter if I want to save 5 buck per controller. Lol this thread is a spinner.
The actuators will bind up on the happs, why not just get the IL sticks when they are $13 each?

But the point is the cabinet originally had Wico leaf sticks.

By sunset riders, they already changed to wico 8 way microswitch sticks. TMNT & Simpsons = leaf. Sunset riders, TIT, xmen = microswitch.

lol, my exact thoughts reading the other posts. I had come into a set of Wico microswitch joysticks and threw those in the Simpsons at work. I'll have to replace the actual switches someday though.

there's some replacement balltop joysticks that people use sometimes, I don't know if Twisted Quarter sells them or who though. any recommendations there? cause the Wicos will eventually be unobtainium or become more inhumanly priced.

I don't like the grip on the ball top, except on certain games for example on my Smash TV. And from what I gather, finding Wico Leaf sticks are few and far between, and expensive. I was also reading that rebuilt ones could be bad if hard rubber grommets were used.

In regards to the ILs, I may buy them, but between Paradise Arcade and Focus Attack, someone is usually out of a color and I don't want to pay extra shipping from 2 sites in order to buy a set. Plus, the ILs have a color matching dust washer, I like the black washer better, I just think the colored one looks more toy like (unless it's black on black). If I was able to buy the black washer seperate and swap it onto the IL I would probably buy it, provided one site had all colors in stock.

Both sites usually seem to have all common Happ Comp colors in stock, but now I know why. I just didn't know they bound up that often in non fighting games.

You are better off getting IL sticks and swapping the dust washers than getting HAPP sticks an swapping the actuator and the bushing it rides on.

Just saying.

I'll probably wind up doing that, i'll just have to find which washer will fir the IL if I can't buy IL washers seperate. When I tried swapping the happ washer on the IL, it wouldn't fit because the IL has a little more thickness in the joystick where it meets the washer. I would have to wind up grinding out the plastic which may look like hell if I mess up.

Ok I'm pretty sure that red stick isn't a HAPP competition stick. Can you shoot a photo of the underside?

I just was to be really clear, the HAPP Competition and IL Eurosticks use the exact same molds, all parts will be interchangeable.

IL used to make the Competition Sticks for HAPP, that's why they are the same. When Suzo bought HAPP they moved production to China. The parts are the same, it's just the the HAPP sticks use inferior PVC for the parts that are Nylon on the IL sticks.

I wondering if you have a HAPP ultimate or Super in your cabinet.

Oh and I have some black washers I can send you that will fit. How many do you need?

Lastly those dust washers are supposed to be mounted under the panel, and yes I know I have them on top of a few of my cabinets.

I recently bought a pair of Happs from TQ, as well as several ILs from Focus. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the ILs are way better. They feel heavier, build quality is better, and they came with Cherry's as well.

I had to mod the Happ Comps to even be playable. I think JP355i made a tutorial on how to get the switches closer to the actuator. I'll see if i can find it somewhere.

Sure, see below. If it's not a Happ Comp, can you confirm if the joystick is the same height as the IL?

4 ideally, possibly 8 (the ones that are supposed to go on top of the CP.

I may be getting confused, I know there's a underside washer, but are you saying there's not supposed to be a washer on top of the control panel? If I did that, there'd be a large (unreasonable in my opinion) gap around the shaft as shown in the last picture.

OK that is not a HAPP competition at all. I haven't seen any HAPP stick that looked like that, It's not a Competition, Ultimate or a Super.

I can see that it can have leafs or microswitches.

Competition (same as IL Eurostick but different materials):

As for mounting the dust washer, I tend to agree with you, if the panel is thick it's better to put it on the top, otherwise you will pinch your finger between the stick and the hole in the panel.

Lol now I have no idea what kind of joystick that is. When I got my MK1, those same joysticks were in it before I swapped them for the ILs. All 4 of my Sunset Riders sticks are currently those also. I did notice that they both have slots/openings on bottoms where the switches sit flush to.

Whoever figures out which joysticks those are gets a klov rep point ;)

I'm the type that I nevvvvvvver believe all the purist or super picky people's opinions on things.

With that said, I figured out awhile back that yes the newer Happ Competition joysticks are completely junk for fighting games. I'm not a really good player but i'm o.k. with Ryu on Street fighter, etc. With the Competition joysticks you'll miss fireballs and dragon punches and things OFTEN. Like every other move.

They didn't use to be like that but they've changed. The IL sticks work better so I started ordering those for fighting games.

I couldn't care less about the spring or the weight of the switches, etc. but unfortunately it's just a fact that the competition sticks the way they're making them right now can't be used in fighting games.

The switches really only matter because the Cherry switches are gold plated so they don't oxidize on the contacts as fast and their last longer. Those e switches at least in my basement don't last a year before one stops working.

Wow still no takers? I figured someone would've know what type of contollers these were by now. They had to have been some sort of common replacement at one time because I pulled them off my MK1 and they're in my SSR. I will say that the single holed /non adjusting screw location in the corners pattern matched the original MK1 hole pattern perfect.

I did some looking around last night, but no luck.

1) Square top (looks to be at least), with 4 mounting holes in the corners, and not the kind of elongated holes that give a little wiggle room to adjust. These holes are fixed round.

2) Switch plate mounting area is round, with lobes, and has 2 slots between each switch.

3) Square white nylon actuator, which makes contacts with microswitches. Microswitches are arranged in a way that looks as if micro leafs could have been used.

4) Bat top handle, smooth not textured like IL handles.

I wonder if Happ briefly had an old model similar to the Ultimate before the Suzo merge?
