Are Dual Monitor PC10 and Punch Out identical Cabinets?

I have a Playchoice 10 dual monitor, and someone once told me these were all conversion kits from punch out. Is this true?

They are not all conversions. For the most part they are identical. Depends how specific you are talking about.

I guess I mean the monitors and the cabinets, obviouly the control panels and electronics are identical.

I guess I will ask, could you say that Nintendo used the same cab and monitors for both machines, and also provided conversion kits to upgrade older punch out games?

I do know that there was some kind of tempered glass upgrade made available and I do have that for my PC10.

So how specific are the same or not? Really nothing more than curious.

From the factory, the Punchout cabs used a 1 piece plexiglass bezel. The PC-10 cabs used the 2 piece glass setup. The glass was required due to the guns not registering properly through scratched up plexi.

The kits that Nintendo sold to convert a Punchout cab to PC-10 (yes, they sold them) included the 2 piece glass and brackets. You could also buy the glass and brackets directly from Nintendo as well.

AFAIK, there were some differences in the wood material used in those cabs too. Not sure if there was a specific type used for Punchout versus PC-10, but Nintendo DID make two types of those cabs.

As for the cabinet itself, ie just the wood, the only difference is the spot to hold the gun. Nintendo sold both an upgrade kit for PO, SPO, and AW cabs and a Playchoice Dual Monitor Cab.

If one has a PC10, is there any way to tell if it was once a PunchOut?

The absence of any holes for the gun mount, and the absence of the glass bezels (or holes from their mounts) would pretty much tell you that your cab was NOT originally a PC-10. But as to origin, as 2600 has stated, it could have been a Punch Out, Super Punch Out, or Arm Wrestling.

I'm not sure the early Dual Monitor Playchoice cabs were shipped with glass.
