Are there any advantages or instances where cocktail's are better then uprights? Or specific games that play better?

They don't play better. Easier to move though. Do make for good living room/bar room tables!

yes there are instances where cocktail's are better than uprights, it happeneds when you can not get the high score and you need a break, or if the upright breaks and your about to pull your hair out, drinking a cocktail is somethings the best thing to do.

And yes specific games play better with a cocktail, sip back an incredible hulk and your high score might happen. I feel more relaxed after a mixed drink so it might help you to.

Most folks say the Warlords cocktail is better because four players can play at once, as opposed to the 2 player upright. The Track & Field cocktail supports 4 players as well.

Some cases a cocktail is better. Warlords and Track n Field come to mind. I want a Wizard of Wor cocktail.

doh. I also prefer Tempest in a cocktail jacked up in a standing position for serving nachos and lemon-heads.

In general I hate them. They take up a lot of valuable space and I find them uncomfortable to play for a long time since I tend to hang over the screen rather than stare at it like an upright.

I always laugh when non collectors tell me they want to get a cocktail because they don't have a lot of space. I ask if they have 5' ceilings! Throw in some chairs and they consume twice the floor space of an upright. I guess if you want it to double as a table like they did in restaurants/bars then they make sense.

I think they are a little more social than uprights. You play face to face with someone, and conversation just comes a little more easily.

I have also noticed that many fond arcade memories being told from the prettier gender, seem to involve cocktail cabinets. Coincidence?

Not better, but I like having one. You can put them in the middle of a room and they will look good too. Attractive from all angles. No bar is complete without one. :)

Not the greatest pic but there are certain spots where a cocktail can fit nicely. The bar is to the right with the megatouch and notebook sitting on it, there is a row of games to the left, The couch HAS to be there *wife* so really an upright or 3 would not work in that spot.

when most people see my collection the first thing they say is "i never knew they made these type of games!" i think they're different and unique to collect. and they compliment the uprights!

They have their charm. Its nice to have one or two, just to throw them in the mix and have something to set stuff on. However, they are space hogs so I would keep them limited. The head to head play is also kind of nice on several different games, Hat Trick, Warlords, etc.

I like cocktails because I can integrate them into the furniture of a room - I don't have to give something up to get a game in there. Uprights are better if you want to have more than one or two games in a room, or if you are short on space.

Frankly, if you're short on space, then cabaret cabinets are probably the right thing. Certainly not cocktails.

As others have said, games like Warlords, Track and Field, and even Eliminator are often more fun to play in cocktail form.

I personally want a cocktail game because I have the perfect position for it right in front of the couch in our entertainment room.

Depends on what your needs are. I personally like playing on the cocktail cabs, some people don't for various reasons like neck pain and akward placement of controls. Cocktails take up more foot print because the players need a place to sit down, this generally seems to come out to 1 cocktail foot print = 2 uprights.

I'm thinking about building a MAME cocktail since it can effectively support horizontal and vertical monitor games, just change what side you're playing on. Cocktails are also easier to move around than an up-right cab.

Mostly it's just a matter of preference, but each style has its pluses and minuses. It's your job to value each of those traits to match your situation.

Isn't that pretty? My .02 is that your significant other is more receptive to a cocktail than a full size upright. It blends in with the house furniture better. And if you have a lot windows in the room you can put it under, so it won't block the view to outside either.

Beside Warlords, I think Space Duel is another game plays better in cocktail than upright.

I agree, I think space duel is better on the cocktail. The opposite perspective I believe leads to better scores in linked play.

I don't think warlords benefits by being in cocktail. The benefit is the added 2 players.

Cocktails are definitely cool, but when you're running out of room like I am, I traded 2 of my cocktails(centipede and dig dug) for uprights to save space. The only one I have left is Tapper, and I'm thinking about asking if anyone wants to trade their upright for my cocktail...
