Are Cockpits worth more than stand-up: RE Pole Position

I am in Winnipeg, Canada. The price on machines here has never really been friendly with resellers and such. Just wondering if a PP 1 cockpit would be worth the same or more than the standup. This is based on the old room versus look and coolness factor. Guy wants $600 for it. That said I cannot afford half that right now; just wondering where the community is on big cabs in general. I for one would love it but always room and cash considerations...

That really depends on the game. I don't think PP is one of those cockpits that commands a whole lot more than the upright, but I could be wrong. I would think $600 is high for a game as common as a PP, unless it's in amazing shape and is fully working. Which is sorta doubtful. A lot of newer cockpit or large racing games go at auctions for dirt cheap.

I'd say the cockpit is worth more in general. Although a lot of people like having the standup version to conserve space. But sitting down to drive is the way God intended.

It's all about your local market. While IMO, a cockpit should always be worth more than an upright due to more artwork and extra features (PP is a good example), alot of times they sell for the same $300ish range as an upright because they are often beat to shit and too heavy/ large for the public to deal with. I think an average PP cockpit would be around $300-$500 in my area. Higher for a nice specimen like TheShanMan's or Phetishboy's.

Many players seem to prefer to play that game on an upright as opposed to the CP, including myself. I've never used the CP brake lol.

CP all the way. That's the way driving games should be played, and that's how I was introduced to Pole Position. :)

If I were in the market for one and I had the room, that's the route I'd go. I'd pay more.

It depends on your market area and the game in question as was previously said. I've seen PP1 and 2 cockpits go for decent coin ($300-500) and seen them sit like rocks on CL until ultimately given away.

Missile Command goes for major coin because it is rare as hell. Star Wars and EDOT go for big money because of the fanbase.

If it is a RoadBlasters, though, you're probably looking at no more than $150 no matter where you are.

Yup - and it's also fun as hell in CP form. The sound and large monitor make for the ultimate Missile Command experience. Love that thing.

If I had the room, I'd be on an $150 RB CP in good shape like a cheap suit.

I think the cockpit version has 4 discrete sound channels (and speakers) as opposed to the upright's two. Always found that to be kind of cool. Very noticeable during the music sequences. Maybe I remember wrong, sold it a while back.

Cockpit all the way for me, Ive had a PP and now have a Monaco GP cockpit and love them a lot yes there is the space factor but if ya have it they are a deff must. Agreed that a Good cockpit PP would prob fetch $300 decent and playing, and like many others are saying the price differs depending on game....

When I was in 8th grade, which would have been 1986-87, I was on a Jr. Bowling league team called the Alley Rats. We bowled every Saturday during the Winter at the Albany Bowling Center. In the small brick gameroom in the back corner of the building, there was a Pole Position cockpit that was always on. The attract mode sounds of that game were burned into my brain. After bowling, we always raced a game or 7 before getting picked up by our moms. We ended up the champions of the league that year. I like to attribute our championship to the morale boost that Pole Position cockpit gave us every Saturday. Cockpit all the way:

Phet, your attendant is doing a pisspoor job - trash on the games, coin doors left open... Fire him.

Hold it, hold it, the 'trash' was a rag I was using to wipe the games down and make them shine like your cubic zirconia-crusted ghetto grill, the coin door was open cuz that's where the credit switch is. Benny stays on the payroll.

That is twice you have gotten "ragged" on for that photo. You think you would have learned the first time you posted it.

Totally dig the blue T-molding on the PP.

I have become this far that I think any racing game should be enjoyed sitting down.
After all, I have personally never driven a car while standing up......

I think it's one compromise too far. I had two upright racing games (Double Axle and Power Drift) before and both didn't last long in my game room before selling them on....

And of course it's easy for me to say but games like SW are less than half the fun on an uptight so yes cockpits generally are worth (much) more to me....

This was also one of the reasons for me to get a Hard Drivin' cockpit...I definitely wanted a racing game but it HAD to be a sit-down that would fit. FIrst I wanted a PP, but after playing HD again at Fun Spot I changed my plans...

Maybe another cause for this is that BITD those games were almost always in the (full) sit-down (deluxe) version only here....I had never seen an upright Outrun before I started this hobby, it was ALWAYS the full motion one's here. Same with SW, I didn't know there was an upright version until I started collecting...
The one's that I have seen on MAINland Europe have been either imported from the US or from the UK....
