Does anyone know HOW to set one of these to free vend? I have the tray type where you push the tray in with the bill placed horizontally. Bill Validator MK8. Just send me a photo or a step by step, anything to get me started. I see several videos of people who have done it, but no explanation of how.

On the side of the MK8 validator is a white 4 pin Molex connector. Unplug it from the validator with the changer powered off.

Now turn the power back on and momentarily short pins 3 (brown wire) and 4 (white wire) of that connector together with a small straight slot screwdriver. The machine should instantly pay out as if you put a dollar bill in it.

Most people just make a cable with a 4 pin Molex on one end and a pushbutton switch on the other end wired to pins 3 and 4 of the Molex.

Here is a photo of my cable. Is this the correct one? Nothing happens if I short the two wires together. Here is also a picture of the circuit boards that are in place on my unit.

Found it, had the wrong one. It will trip, but it will only do it a few times. Then you have to press the silver button on the inside to get the hopper to cycle again. Thoughts?

It's the one on the outside of the MK8 tray acceptor, not inside it.

Hopper is too low on the amount of coins in it. You absolutely need a bare minimum of $20 in the payout hopper. Preferably you should have $200 of coins in it to function properly.

When you don't have enough coins in the hopper, the refill circuit for the hopper "times out" because it took to long to reload the front payout track of the hopper with coins.

What Ken said!

For mine I just used the micro switch that's already on the bill head mech which is triggered when you push the tray in. You of course need to disconnected the switch from the other circuit first.

Ok, figured it out. I have two different style hoppers, one with an open coin column and one with a plastic cover. The open style kept getting jammed and the closed style wouldn't pick coins up with the conveyor belt. I switched the faces from one to another, added a credit micro switch out of an old pitch n bat and it works! I added around $40 worth of quarters and that also really helped. Is my memory flawed or did the "Change" sign on the front used to light up?

Time to restart this thread, my Ardac bill changer was working awesome for about 2 years. You could push the tray in and it would drop out 4 quarters, no problem. Then about a month ago, it would click, but dispense nothing. I pulled one of the boards and after giving it a look, I'm wondering if it is the caps and other semi-conductors. It is dated January of 74, so I am betting it needs a refresh. Anyone have a schematic of this machine or ideas?

I'd clean that edge connector, and the pins that it pushes into. They look like low quality tin, and I'll bet they are resistive.
