ARCH RIVALS CUSTOM

Cabinet and Hardware:

Cabinet: New black melamine cut from design of original dedicated machine
Metal: Stripped and powder coated brackets, coin door, speaker mesh
Control panel: powder coated, leveled out and flush screws
Internal metal parts: cleaned and painted as needed
Bolts: polished
T-molding: New
Locks: New
Vinyl Leveler: New
Speakers - New
Orange Joystick shafts: NOS
Buttons: New
Joystick bases: Polished
Coin Box: Sand Blasted
Midway Cabinet Handles: New

Cosmetics:

Control Panel Overlay: NOS (took 9 months of emails to acquire this one)

Side Art: Original cabinet had faded and ripped artwork. Made custom side art too look more like the artwork on the bezel. Took a flyer, scanned it in super hi rez. Did a ridiculous amount of photoshop work to fill in the gaps and make it fit on the cabinet. Including creating faces and reversing text and numbers. One of the hardest parts was removing the folds from the flyer which when blown up are like grand canyons.

Bezel: Original, good shape, a couple small scratches, one spot of ink missing.

Inner Plastic Bezel: cleaned and clear coated

Marquee: Nice shape, polished up

Coin Inserts: Custom Bally/Midway logo

Electronics:

Monitor: New VisionPro 19 inch
Power supply: rebuilt, polished
Boards: cleaned
Wire harness: cleaned, zip tied
Power Cord: New
Marquee Light Fixture/Bulb: New
Coin Door: New LED's

The Idea: Take this 8"x10" flyer and make it 7 feet tall:

Dan,

Much Respect on the time it took to make that Side art.
That there is impressive taking a small Flyer, & Blowing it up to a FULL Size side art.

Damn... that's Dedication. I know that took a while. Especially flipping it to make the other side.

LOL, I know its no Select All & Flip.

Great job on the art piece.

Great Looking cabinet.

Great job, I love the side art, is that from the NES poster?

One thing, you went to all this trouble with the custom side art, and yet you left the biggest flaw on this game which is the horrible control panel layout?

Looks great! I really like the custom sideart. That is how it should have been done originally.

Thanks BioMech! It was a pain in the neck for sure. The toughest part was creating faces in the crowd behind the red star burst. I used hair from here, eyebrows from there, mixed and matched eyes, noses etc to make new faces. My hand kept cramping up from using the rubber stamp in Photoshop :)

What is done with these games once they are restored? The reason why I ask is because I never see a thread about these games being played. All I ever see is a thread about a restoration and a warehouse full of games with plastic over them.

Thanks! Yes it's the foldout poster that was tucked inside the box.
There is a pic of the scan at the top of this thread.

That looks amazing, I see your restores and then I look at my machines and I feel that I have neglected mine . . . but I have always said this I keep my machines in "survivor" condition.

Hopefully someday that will change!

This is a temporary home while I restore them. They get played, that's why you see isles to move back and forth. I'm working on a permanent location.

Thanks! Hey, i know it doesnt look this way, but i believe cosmetics are the least important aspect of these games. If your games are working and dialed in that's all you need. I go through so many controllers, yokes, joysticks (old, new, rebuilt, different models, etc.) until the games play like they were meant to. I've changed the springs on my Spyhunter CP Yoke 3 times already and it still doesnt feel right.
