Arcadization Project - Donkey Kong '94

So I did this today, I have the SNES wired up to a JAMMA fingerboard, and that is plugged into my Neo cabinet via a JAMMA adapter. Looks like I will need to add a video amp circuit.

I was going to connect the SNES to a composite monitor, but I am now going to make the cabinet JAMMA and used a standard arcade monitor.

Also, the cabinet has been painted on the inside with black. I know that Nintendo cabinets weren't painted entirely on the inside, but this was way easier than taping it. ;)

Applied the Formica on one side

Went on well, the fumes were pretty strong. It looks really great! I used DAP rubber cement, then cut the Formica flush with the bottom bearing trimmer bit on my router.

Nice job! There is something amazing about seeing a new cab come to life. Laminate may be a little pricey, but you can't beat the ease and durability of the finished product. Can't wait to see this finished.

The front is covered in Formica

Formica is awesome to work with, although very scary, you don't want to crack it!

I don't have a J Roller, so as per instructions I used a piece of wood and a rubber mallet.

Looks great, I still need to cut the speaker slots (need a smaller trimmer bit) and put Formica on the left side.

Very nice so far! This is great watching this come together. You should have used an old 19" TV and saved the arcade monitor for another project. The TVs are much easier to find!

Next time borrow the mrs's rolling pin.

This would be nicer if my sticks were done LOL

Don't worry you will get yours! :D

I have a TV, but I decided to use a JAMMA harness on this cabinet so it would be easier to use an RGB monitor, besides I have a bunch of extra monitors and I and put other JAMMA boards in this cabinet if I wanted.

Dremel to the rescue

My trimmer bit on my router was too wide to do the speaker grill, so I used the multipurpose cutting kit (565-02) along with the straight carbide cutter (9901) as a router.

I had to have the bit on the very tip of the chuck so that the shank was against the plywood while the cutting part was against the Formica.

Anyway it worked out really well, the bit fell out once.

The beat up DK control panel is just for position:

Now that the speaker area is done, it occurs to me that I need the metal grill that goes behind this. I looked on Mike's Arcade and I don't see it. Anyone know of a source, or have one for sale?

You do nice work, sir! If I still had my RBI baseball converted ninty cabinet I would've given you my metal grill. Sadly, it was an unfinished project that was sold.

i might have one that will fit, it came from that 18 wheeler i parted out, get that soundboard and you can have it along with the soundboard i have.

I bought a 2'x2' sheet of perforated steel for this purpose. *warning* It costs $35 per sheet. Not sure which of these I chose, probably 1, 2 or 3:
