I have been wanting to do this for some time now, but only recently did I have a full side Nintendo cabinet I could duplicate for this project.

Right now I have the cabinet made, It still need to be painted, art work etc. I have the Playchoice marquee and DK control panel are there just for position. When I am done it will have custom side art, control panel, bezel and marquee. I haven't decided what color I am going to make this, leaning towards red or yellow or green. I don't want to do light blue like DK or dark blue like D2K. I think it should have something different.

I am using a Super Game Boy over any other way of putting a GB game on a screen because of the extra features that are not accessible in a Game Boy Player, or emulation. I am going to turn the SGB border off and try and stretch the image horizontal size, but I don't know If I can stretch it vertically.

The monitor is a Panasonic CT-1920M which was used in TV production. I picked it up a couple years ago for something like this in mind.

I'm thinking Nes/Snes/Gameboy 2 tone gray with light gray t molding and side art text. or any combination of those 2 colors with or without a little black (nes style).

i see there's at least 2 different grays for t-molding. Light Gray and Putty Gray :D

In this project it isn't supposed to be a arcadization of a console, but one game. I don't want it to look like a Gameboy or Console. Also I don't think they make 1/2 inch flat t-molding in grey. The molding is going to be white.

i think the console color scheme is kinda nice, and i don't remember any games looking that way that's why i recommended it. I also assumed you used 3/4" not 1/2" to build it (but we all know about assumptions).

It would look like a VS system:

Edit:
I want to know what Vs. Motocross is! Vs Excitebike is in that stack too, so it must not be excitebike.

Edit #2:
Vs. Football? Vs. Ladies Golf?!??!?!

Hey anyone know how to get the cross hatch pattern on SNES Konami games like Gradius III, etc to stay on for more than a second? I want to use it to tune this monitor.

you might need a screen test pattern generator for that.

What about the "Nintendo red" vinyl thisoldgame sells?

I know, I know, it's more costly than paint, but I just hate how paint looks compared to vinyl.

Don't some action replay/game genie type devices support this function?

This monitor isn't RGB. And besides Gradius III does it, I just have to hit reset every 4 seconds. ;)

Great idea! I will check out my codebook!

Not only is it more costly, but I would have to paint the cabinet anyway. I am going to paint it and if I don't like it I can put vinyl on top. I am going to do clear coat layers to try and make it look more like a Ninty finish. I found that if you spray on triple thick then sand it with 2000 grit then wax it, it looks just like the original finish.

I followed your VB thread, cant wait to watch this one go down. You do great work.

Thanks man!

Have you tried pulling the Gradius 3 cart while on that grid screen with the power on? That may work, and shouldnt harm anything. Although if this is an original system with a cart lock, you may need to remove the shell.

Looks promising Tighe. I'd go vinyl as well. How did you cut your speaker grills? End bearing trim bit?

Thanks Phet! I really appreciate that!

I used my father's milling machine. Cuts it like butter. :D

Edit:

I have a end bearing and top bearing trim bits, and many those are so usefull!

Edit #2:

I used that milling machine to cut the recessed area for those control panels I made for you too.

I actually need to find a top bearing bit. My local Menards doesn't carry them. I've gotta cut my Ninty Cabaret speaker grills this week, but I have to do it by hand.

Well if the piece on the cabaret style cabinet weren't so big I would have said you could send them to me and I would cut them for you. If you can't the bit near you, they sell freud ones by me, but they cost 2.5 times more than the bottom bearing version.

They are awesome for cutting control panel plexi:
