In the vein of Roadworthy Rescues, I'm presenting my Tail Gunner 2
Arcadeworthy Rescue.
If you haven't seen Roadworthy Rescues, you're missing some laughter as the host refers to some cleaning products like SOS pads as "Shine Units" and spray wax as "Shine Juice" and other funny statements.
As many of you may be aware, I recently picked up a Tail Gunner 2 from a KLOV member out west. When it arrived, it was a bit dirty, so in the same manner as Roadworthy Rescues, I started cleaning it.
The side panels are plywood with a white vinyl woodgrained material applied over it. If you look at the next picture, you can see the dirt stuck in the woodgrain.
Yes, I see the gaping hole there. I'll get to that after I clean up the white vinyl.
So I asked the wife what works well to clean up stuff, and we ended up making up a small container of Murphy's Oil Soap in water, with a washcloth to "soak" the white vinyl, and a toothbrush to clean the dirt out of the woodgrain.
I started in on this, and thought "This doesn't look bad at all."
On the right side, it's the after. The left side is "haven't got to that yet, but should probably take a picture to contrast the results."
So I kept going at it, a section at a time. The wife came by and said "You ought to start from the bottom and work your way up." Well, yep, too late for that, so I kept going.
It's odd, but as I got lower, it got harder to clean. The toothbrush wasn't getting the dirt out. I'm thinking my soap is dead, but it's still working, so I was scrubbing away, and accidentally dragged a fingernail on the white vinyl.
And got paint off. Someone already did a "craigslist" overhaul on the white vinyl, and they painted it.
Here is where I left off. It looks like a rattle can, because I don't see brush strokes or drips.
It's looking pretty good, apart from the gaping hole. It's cleaning up nicely.
The next trick is to figure out how to remove the rattle can paint upgrade without damaging the vinyl. Any suggestions?
