This is probably been discussed a zillion times here but its clear that whoever wrote the games for the ASD is not creating new games for the card.

Which leads me to my next question. WHY isnt someone else writing emulations for this card?

The ONLY vector game on the ASD is Asteroids, there are SO MANY more that seems like could be added. I am sure its not a perfect emulation to pitch perfect gamers but i find the ASD asteroids to be a lot of fun.

There are also some missing games i'd love to see added. Tempest, Battle Zone, Pot O Gold and TRON come to mind. I am NOT a programmer so i dont know the limitations of the ASD. Just wondering why there are not other folks out there putting out a few missing arcade games that seem absent from the 1980's collection.

It's a closed system so no 3rd party can easily add anything to it.

If you want an open system or the ability to add different emulators and games then you need to use a different board.

Well that sucks! You'd think after 10+ years of no new game development they'd open it up. Heck, franchise it where they get a cut of the action on new games.

They'd sell more cards if someone kept developing games.

It doesn't sound like you have any history with this product or developing/selling any products to this market.

To keep it short, basically:
1. If they open it up then they would loose their ability to have any other products (they have other products besides the arcadesd built on the same or similar archtecture)
2. Low motivation to open source products when your products are bootlegged.

I've personally dealt with both and can relate.

The ArcadeShop board, based on the same hardware/emulation I believe, was bootlegged. Now to add roms/firmware update, the arcadeSD has to check against a database for it to be valid.

There is a chance that development for the ArcadeSD will start up again :)

Correct, i dont. Just seems like they are handicapping themselves out of fear of what 'might' happen. Dunno.

What i do know is there are STILL some 1980's Arcade Gems that would be right at home on the ASD. Heck, i'd pay handsomely per title for new games.

As of now it seem like its just being forgotten by its creators. Which is sad because i love the ASD and the games that are already there.

This would be awesom!

It's not forgotten, the developers for it have day jobs and with life events, decided to take a "hiatus."
I own a couple that I got well after development ended. I would only purchase one as long as you were satisfied with what it can do at this point in time. The developers still support it and if it breaks or has an issue, it can be mailed off for repair :)

It's a great product that has a few quirks but it is still going strong almost 10 years later.

Oh, dont get me wrong...i LOVE LOVE LOVE mine.

Just want to see new vintage games added, thats all.

Its top tier quality, too!

From what I remember, Clay was having someone else add the games, and that person quit so Clay just stopped all updates on it.

It was fairly complicated to add new games and Clay just doesn't have the interest in doing it himself.

So I personally don't think there will ever be updates to it.

It is what it is.

:)

I agree its a great board and Clay is a great guy. Maybe he will surprise us someday but if not I don't think there is a better Jamma option for classic games.

Id like to see the boot to a single game option have the ability to exit to the multi game menu. It would be nice to have each original cabinet boot to its designated game but still have the multiage option.

I have a predecessor version, 8 games on a GAMMA-1 card (not reprogrammable AFAIK) that somebody dropped into my Ms Pac/Galaga bootleg at some point in its lifetime. Great interface, Clay was at the top of his game (so to speak) for that kind of thing.

Clay when asked about updates last year:

Clay Cowgill, 9/29/2020 — ""never say never". My old business partner still tells me he's going to get back to it, but he's got a couple little kids at this point and I just don't see it happening anytime 'real soon now'. Rest assured I do bring it up every time I see him though."

:)

There is a boot to game option and you can add a button extension Or put the card close to the coin door to exit out to menu. Some games the coin up is broken, like donkey Kong, so that is still an issue.
