I'm going to be in the Denver area in a few weeks and am wondering if there are any good classic arcades or pinball places? I'm planning on hitting 1UP but am looking for some other options.

Thanks.

There really aren't many options aside from 1UP. As someone else said there's Lyons Pinball, but that's about an hour away. If you do go there, Oskar Blues, a bar next door, has about 20 classic video games. Otherwise there is just Dave and Buster's, Nickel-a-play (which is a dump basically), and a couple other family entertainment centers (like Game Shack).

That confirms what I was not finding. I may hit Lyons and Oskar Blues if it works out. Last year when I was in Philly I drove over an hour to get to the Jersey shore at others recommendation and it ended up being worth the drive. Thanks guys.

There's also Lakewood Grill at 8100 W Colfax, Lakewood, CO. Last time I was there (about 4 months ago) they had 7-10 arcades and 5-6 pinballs. They had an Embryon and I had a lot of fun playing it.

I've never been to Flipper McGill's, but they're about 30 mins west of Denver in Idaho Springs:

This is a good website for Colorado pinball locations - updated fairly regularly:

Finally, you could try stopping by Game Exchange of Colorado. They're just off of I-25 and 6th Avenue. It's not a bar/arcade, but rather a business selling games. But, they have all their games on and you can check out their current stock. They have normal business hours, so aren't open past 5pm, I believe.

Flipper McGill's closed at its current location I heard. He's trying to find a new place.

Thanks for the tip on Lakewood Grill. What else do they have?

Lakewood Grill also had a Dracula, Twilight Zone, Spiderman, Transformers, and Simpsons Pinball Party.

One thing I'll mention about 1Up is my wife and son had a great time there one afternoon after finally getting to play a real-life Medieval Madness. We've played it a ton on the Xbox, but they laughed their asses off at the non-censored dialogue on the real game at 1Up. We decided if we ever could afford an MM we'd have to put it on the "dirty" setting for dialogue.

My only complaint about 1Up is that all of their pinballs are pretty much 90's and newer games. This really is a nit-picky complaint - because the place really is awesome. I just with they had some early and late 80's games - like Xenon, Black Hole, Space Shuttle, or Sorcerer. I don't know if those are more difficult to maintain or perhaps they had them at one time and they just didn't make the money like the newer ones.

A second vote for the arcade in Manitou. I was just there this past spring. The place is absolutely amazing.

You going to the Kong Off? I will be there too. Was maybe planning a trip to Manitou if it works out ok. Will see how this whole thing plays out.

I'm going to miss the Kong Off. Really bums me out. My wife is a huge fan of King of Kong but I wasn't quite able to convince her to go to the Kong Off for our anniversary. :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I hit the arcade in Manitou Penny Arcade on my first day. Unfortunately I only was able to spend 30 minutes or so there as they close at 5pm in the winter. Kinda a bummer since I only had one shot at that arcade due to logistics. I do recommend it if you are in the area. At least I can say I played Asteroids outdoors.

I spent most of my free time at the 1UP. It has a great selection of classic games and newer pinball machines. The only one that appeared to not be working was the Track and Field. I set a high score on the Donkey Kong would should have qualified me for the Kong Off 2 even though it was only 31k. :)

They have a good selection of beers and it is a great atmosphere. The beers they have on tap are housed in an old Tapper cabinet which was cool. Most of the games and pinball machines have a cup-holder nearby to hold your beer.

I'd like to take my family there for a future vacation but they do not allow any children aged 16-20--even if accompanied by an adult.

At first I thought KidVidiot was being flippant with his comment about the 2UP but it does exist. It is a couple of miles from the 1UP and has almost exactly the same games. The lineup is so similar that it could not be a coincidence. The 2UP does have an awesome 4-player Track and Field (which I had never seen in person) along with a few different pins.

I did check out the Dave and Busters since it was right by my hotel. It had a surprisingly decent line-up of games and pins but after visiting the 1UP and 2UP I didn't bother playing anything there.

Ah too bad about the Penny Arcade. I didn't realize it closed so early this time of year. At least you got to see it though.

And yeah, 2UP does exist. I think the reason the game selection is so similar at 2UP is because they found those to be good earners at 1UP. Unfortunately though that means I have no reason to go over there. It's really great they exist though because I love to have arcades with actual people in them that I can go to.

That does suck. It takes a lot of time to get into the whole place. I will have to change my plans. I was planning an early evening over there myself.

It was funny too because the weather was around 70 degrees and they kicked at least 10 of us out of the arcade at closing time. Some of the machines were turned off before 5pm even. That being said I would go back next time but I'll call first to check on the hours.
