We have had discussions about arcades that we remember from back in the day and current arcades that we have visited, but how many local arcades from the 80's are still around (or maybe recently closed up shop)? I'm not talking about any chains, but the local mom and pop ones. With summer vacation trips coming up, it might be cool to get a list in case someone is visiting near one that they can stop by and play a few games.

The amusement center in Milford, CT has been around just about that long and is still kicking, although it's pretty run down now. The arcades that exist on boardwalk areas on beach vacation areas like Atlantic City, Myrtle Beach, Ocean City, etc. have all been around forever too.

Star worlds arcade in dekalb, il

Yea, Star Worlds is what made me ask this. I saw on their Facebook page that they were recently added to the The International Registry of Historic Video Game Arcades. Their page says that they are the 5th arcade to be inducted, and the previous 4 are out of business!

SS Billiards in Hopkins, MN. 39th Anniversary this September 20th. LTG :)

wizards kingdom in manitowoc. guess it is technically a chain, but it isnt operated like one and its been in the same shitty mall here in town since the early 80s.

Pinball Petes in Ann Arbor Michigan. There used to be 3 in town and they call consolidated into one huge arcade. Most of what they have now are large dollar games (drivers, shooters, etc), but they still have about 15 pins 15 classics and probably over 100 pieces total.

They also have a location in East Lansing, but the last time I was there (2 years ago) it was total crap. Oldest classic I saw (and that was a real stretch) was Die Hard.

Yes, I just went to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and they still have three full arcades with a bunch of classics and pinball machines. It was cool to see all the classics being played knowing that these were probably the same machines being played thirty years ago.

Playland Arcade at the Santa Monica boardwalk has been in that location for about 70 years, making it one of the oldest arcades in America.

The Santa Cruz beach boardwalk is still one of my favorite arcade to visit if you live in the area. They still have the little classic arcade in the corner and have plenty of Stern and a few classics pins. If anyone attends CAX this year I recommend this stop.
