I finally got around to installing the control panel overlay for my Playchoice 10 today. I stripped the old overlay off with a combo of peeling, wire brush on a drill, acetone, scraping and finally sanding it down with an orbital to completely strip it. I was worried about the alignment since the CP has a step up in the back for the start/reset buttons. I took my time and everything turned out great! I don't know how well it will hold up over time, but for now I'm happy........ - Barry

That came out awsome!

What method did you use to make sure it stuck to that first hard upward bend? Did you just press it in by hand, or use some kind of straight edge to make sure it got into the corner?

I peeled back the top first, then went down over the bend. To get into the corner I used a small plastic tool (like s small scraper, same thing used to apply stickers) It worked out well to get the wrinkles and bubbles. - Barry

Update: for anyone thats interested and has a dedicated single monitor pc like myself, I have been in contact with these guys and I am sending them measurements for a run in the near future!

Mine is coming up around the bends after only 3 months, and I made sure I had a CLEAN bare metal surface. Heated up the overlay and everything . Not loving it, but still better than what was on there before.

Bumping this old thread to see how the CPO is holding up after 14 months... :)

I just sold my Playchoice last weekend. The overlay looked as good as the first day I installed it. - Barry

I ordered one of these and got it today. I am a little disappointed that it isn't as glossy or smooth as the original overlay, and the colors don't seem as bright or vibrant as the original.

Good to know. Did you have any trouble applying it, or with it sticking?

And did you get the dual monitor or single monitor overlay?

I got the dual monitor overlay. I have not attempted to put it on yet. It came rolled up so Im letting it flatten out a bit first. I've also never put on an overlay before so I was hoping to get one of the ones from gameongrafix or thisoldgames first so I could do a flat panel as my introduction, but arcadeoverlays ended up shipping much faster so now I will wrestle with this tri-level beast.

well i completely ruined mine trying to put it on today. i guess the windex method is only for side art. now i will have to order a new one and go through the entire sanding/priming/painting control panel process again. still don't know how im going to do this when the button holes aren't even cut out.

How was the quality? Been thinking about grabbing one.

I have a NOS cpo. I wonder if Rich would be interested in running them? :)

I found it better that the holes weren't punched. At least if you're off a tad it's no big deal. When I did mine, I lined it up and clamped the top in place. I carefully cut the paper backing across the middle and peeled half and pressed it down, then worked my way up using a small amount of heat and a plastic squeegee. I was nervous, but it worked great.

Mine was great, no sign of wear in well over a year before I sold the machine. It got played quite often and spent 3 straight days being played at the NW Pinball and Gameroom show in 2010 and 2011. I would buy it again. -Barry

how do you clamp the top in place when the thing has like 6 sides/levels? You clamped the top back, top top, and top front? And the middle would be the part of the surface where the joysticks are? How did you clamp all the way into the crevice above it?

Just a datapoint-- the one I put on a panel for our arcade started cracking/peeling at the top bend in less than a year. Maybe it would have stood up better if it was home use only, but it was kind of a bummer given all the cleaning/prep time I put in restoring the metal in the first place to have it fail so quickly afterwards.
