on an easy-going pre-errand sippin'-coffee Sat morning window of time, i took a few moments to browse youtube and click some Arcade1Up videos. no surprise, late 201Xs when 1Up was first putting out product, tons of I LOVE 1UP shit from an enthusiastic community arrived
but many videos over the last couple years coming up in search ... the honeymoon seems to be overpeople complaining the quality of the builds are low, the company is putting out 4 versions of the same game with a random mix of features and build differences, homebrew/community-mod changes put the total pricepoints several multiples over the cost of the original
the complaint that killed me the most was "there's no new games coming out" ... this is from a company that exists to split the line between target demographic-affordability and licensing of pre-existing IPs. innovation isn't profitable.
as a company 1Up (Tastemakers LLC) are clearly smart and know how to make money, but, big picture, it was interesting to hear many of the same criticisms volleyed by KLOV about 1Ups are being shared by their own fanbase that find themselves past the hype.
and as an aside, i had to laugh seeing that Justin Wong is shilling for 1Up. damn how much are they paying him.
thank you for reading my blog.
