Arcade1Up Prototype Found

To quote Serino Jones:

"Twice Nothing is Still Nothing".

An Appropriate Quote:

"A Polished Turd Still Stinks".

is this an Arcade1Up diss, Track & Field diss, or is the twice nothing in reference to both?
Arcade1Ups in general. They are all junk. Track and Field is a great game in and of itself but giving it the 1UP treatment? An insult to the game.

I dont get the hatred of them. If it spurs interest in the game, then its a good thing. I see it as a tribute to the greatness of the game. It might motivate someone to buy the real thing. or save one when they see the real thing.

Its just sad how the younger generation does not know history. someone on atariage posted a pic of the final tally table of mule. 3 people responded whats that? how sad they dont know mule. hell it was a nes or maybe even a super nes game..

I am pretty sure it was not produced because it would break immediately. The A1UP buttons are GAR-BAGE, as we all know.

i don't think anyone's disputing the fact that personal amusement can happen with humble things. slinkies are cool, playdoh is cool, etc etc
the cringe hits the fan when an adult gushes for 20 minutes like a child about their obsession with their next mass-produced consumerist distraction in what feels like the most contrived, performative way

this dude (and not to be mean or pick on him too much, this seems to be a popular angle for a lot of youtube content creators) reminds me of those youtubers that look like they haven't bathed in 3 weeks sitting in their cars "reviewing" carcino-slop from fast food restaurants, shouting into the camera, as they chew with their mouths open slapping their chops. the bar is so low. kinda revolting.

Track and Field is one of those games that takes a beating literally. That tiny cabinet made of particle pressure board wont last.

If a NES home version is fun. If a Coleco tabletop was fun. If a plug and play is fun. Then these also are fun. Its not the real thing. It never was. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun playing one. You guys worry too much.
I have no issue with people enjoying 1ups. My issue is when they or others believe we're in the same hobby, and when they are advertised as "arcades"

I mean, its a sub genre of the same. Same as collecting any other video game thing. Its all born out of arcade games. I talked to a lot of people who colelct those and havent met anyone who thinks its the same thing as a real game. The only people who seem to say that are the guys with the real arcade games. Thats why its weird to me.

It's a sub genre of "gaming" not of arcade video games. different branch. We're all under the umbrella of "gaming" ultimately and I understand that. So are mobile games and those are shit.

Perhaps my wording wasn't the best, but what I meant by that was the appropriation of calling them arcades, which they clearly are not.

Ultimately, who cares, right?

Collecting Arcade 1Ups is more akin to collecting handhelds than actual arcade machines IMHO. They're toys. They are advertised as toys. They are bought for children as toys. Nothing more. Nothing less.

They're fine... for toys.

This is what irks me. Not listed as a 1up. Using only the word "arcade" in their listing as well as the company using it in their brand name so that my searches are flooded with junk. At least Atgames doesn't have "Arcade" in the name.

see that doesn't bother me because its easy for anyone in this part of the hobby to decipher it just by a photo. Id be mad if they showed a real arcade cabinet in the photo and then its an Arcade cup when I get there. But having to scroll through a handful of listings is no big deal.

The old Johns Arcade search doesn't work anymore I guess. But thats like a dozen years past anyways. Time moves on.

I have no issue figuring it out. I just don't want to see them

on an easy-going pre-errand sippin'-coffee Sat morning window of time, i took a few moments to browse youtube and click some Arcade1Up videos. no surprise, late 201Xs when 1Up was first putting out product, tons of I LOVE 1UP shit from an enthusiastic community arrived

but many videos over the last couple years coming up in search ... the honeymoon seems to be over 😐 people complaining the quality of the builds are low, the company is putting out 4 versions of the same game with a random mix of features and build differences, homebrew/community-mod changes put the total pricepoints several multiples over the cost of the original

the complaint that killed me the most was "there's no new games coming out" ... this is from a company that exists to split the line between target demographic-affordability and licensing of pre-existing IPs. innovation isn't profitable.

as a company 1Up (Tastemakers LLC) are clearly smart and know how to make money, but, big picture, it was interesting to hear many of the same criticisms volleyed by KLOV about 1Ups are being shared by their own fanbase that find themselves past the hype.

and as an aside, i had to laugh seeing that Justin Wong is shilling for 1Up. damn how much are they paying him.
thank you for reading my blog.
