Arcade video converter. I love it.

Does that mean it wouldn't work on medium rez games like Atari System 2? I would love using something like this on my SF Rushes rather than the not always dependable Neotec's....

I'm afraid that they wont work on anything but std res games.

I first got into the hobby by building a supergun and using video encoders. yes they do work pretty good. However, you will run into compatibility problems with certain tvs and certain pcbs. Jrok has a sync cleaner that fixes some of those issues.

I'm gonna be Honest and say they are in no way as good as a Real RGB monitor. not even close. Soon as I got my first cab and real monitor it was night and day.

how about a review for a converter to say a computer monitor then? anyone?

19" crt's are free most the time too...

I've been using NTSC to RGB converters for years, i'm pretty sure I posted about it along time ago. It's an excellent option for me, I can put in a new TV monitor for the cost of shipping on a real arcade monitor.

Did you mean RGB to NTSC?

And have you used this one? http://www.twobits.com/rgb.html

Because they are idiots. I see it time and time again, people who have no clue about why there are different ways to hook shit up. They figure if they spend enough, it must be better. I would bet that half the HDTV's in this country dont even have anything better than 480i feeding them.

No lie, I was staying in a 5million dollar house with a huge 1080p plasma last week, guess how everything was hooked up? Yep, composite.

You're right. It's like those people who have a 150 W Multi-channel Amplifier and hook it up to a set of tiny speakers with one large subwoofer. Keeps me laughing all the time...

I'm just wondering why noone else has mentioned them in a good way. All the threads I read just have people bashing them, with not even so much as pics of how it looked.

Some people don't like the idea of taking a fixable original part and replacing it with a TV, even though the differences are small.

Times are changing, and there are fewer and fewer purists in the hobby, so stuff like this is getting a better foothold. Consider yourself a pioneer!

I have one of these... The cheapie one from ebay user Yaton.
Works fine. I bought a dead Golden Tee and used it to make sure everything else was working before I sprung for a 27" monitor.

Well it was a win win scenario over here. Got myself all fixed up and the original stuff went to fellow KLOVer oregonarcade. Keeping it in the loop.

Hey gozer, maybe that k7400 just needed to be rejuved. Now that I have a rejuvenator, bring it on up if you're still interested in getting it to look good. :D

What if it was a Dragonslair?

No point in replacing that RGB monitor with a new one when you can just get a TV.

FYI...

If I'm reading the web site correctly this converter board will ONLY accept CGA (aka standard resolution) as its input. Your friends Pod Racer is VGA so I dont think that this thing will work.

Looks like JROK's board only accepts std as well.

There is a shelf VGA-> Svideo converter you can find around...

It is for back in the day when people did presentations and most laptops didn't have TV out... And most conference rooms didn't have high rez projectors.

Yup. That's it. Pretty sure rejuve or just a manual degaussing was all it needed, I just didn't have the tools, and I was ready to move on. It's at CJ's now. I'm sure he'd 'rent' the rejuvenator for a day from you. :)

What do we know about using one of these to feed a widescreen LCD? I have a Golden Tee showcase (Just the pedastool, no monitor) that is going into a bar, and they want to use their LCD tv. Will it display correctly on a widescreen?

I would think you'd have to buy the upgraded video converter with the component hookups available. Seems like that would be the only way to get it to display crystal clear and to the right size. But I've never tried.

ANYONE ELSE?

Do we think one of those averkey thingies would be the better bet for this application?
